Thunderbird Club

Being Queen don't you have staff, footmen, ladies in waiting, or corgis to look after these sorts of things?

I wish! Honestly though my hubby-to-be spoils me to the point that I'm almost embarrassed, pretty happy Queen.

I’m having a wonderful lazy day playing Thunderbirds. FedEx is messing with me and the replacement cab isn’t coming ‘til tomorrow. Not letting it spoil the fun though. Two day shipping ended up being six days. SW is pretty pissed at them.

Treated “my precious” to her annual Sunday spa day. Frets polished, board cleaned and F1ed, strings (smooth as a baby’s behind Cobalt flats) cleaned and all over polish. I love this Thunderbird!

Are those pickups the same as those that came in the EB 2013/14s? I just got one and am trying to find some tones I can use before replacing them completely with something else. My initial thought was to remove the black plastic covers and put these in some NOS chrome 70s covers I have, but I think the ash body may be throwing me. This has the push/pull volume pots to go single coil (and I'm liking that), but nothing is blowing me away. Are those switches on your bird in place of push/pull pots or something else? If those are the DeCola pickups, how do you like them in mahogany? I'd love to know your thoughts.

Yep, the Decolas only came on the 2015 Thunderbird. I really like them. The switches are instead of push pull pots. Lots of tone once you get used to them. They’re very hot. Dialing in pickup height can be a chore. And string choice will change things. But I’ll tell you what, with the versatility of my new tt800, that bird is a hundred trick pony.

I appreciate that. I was thinking these we worth giving a chance. I'll keep playing with them and see if I can't dial them in. Thank you!

That's the model that I have, although it's a '62 so there's a small difference in the grill and side decorations. 390 V8, Sport Roadster, can't remember off the top of my head if it's the M code or not.

Pics or it doesn't exist! :)

I think at least a couple of people in this club have noted they can't intonate the E string on the VP due to lack of backwards travel. I haven't had a problem with mine but I did note the E string side of the bridge does sit further back from the neck than the G string side.

That's what I thought for a while, but now I think it's that the nut is too far out, especially on the lower end. Needs the nut slot moved toward the bridge.

Yeah, I got told that a few times

Mine had a mostly blacked out grill, & one of the fiberglass 6-pack hoods most of its life. Very menacing-looking in the mirror when it's bearing down on you from behind (I viewed the speed limit as more of a recommendation back then....)
Recommendation? More like minimum.
