Thunderbird Club

Have you ever tried wiring the pickups in series instead of parallel? While you have it open maybe put in a series parallel switch.

I really like series on a Thunderbird. I’m saying series a lot, lol.

I've had that mod done on all non-J/P Jazz basses that came into my possession, but the thought of getting it done on a Bird honestly never crossed my mind... what's the end result ?

Instead of a mid cut with both on full in parallel, you get a mid boost and one volume knob because the two pickups are acting like one big pickup. Sounds awesome. I leave my VP on that setting always.

yes I have but, not on this bass yet. This one is a darker sounding bass and already thick in the mids and bottom so, series would only make it more so. I only use my two birds in my Motley Crue tribute band and play with a pick. The epi sounds more like the first 3 albums and my diy build sounds more like the next few albums. I still may do a 3 way switch like you said, just for variety.

Well, we has ourselves another gig tomorrow. Local eclectic restaurant in Hobe Sound, FL. 9AM! to 12. Little bit of light jazz, R&R, brunch music(whatever that is),and ?. 67 NR TBIRD>Rumble 100. Been using a POS phaser lately just for the halibut. Anything I hafta sing will prolly sound like a croaking toad. I expect to wake up somewhere around the middle of the 2nd set.
Oh. And crappy pay. Why do I do it? You ask. What? And give up "Show Biz"?
It's all about your fans and groupies.

Your wife plays, too?
Piano and keys. I just showed her something on bass and she was playing it.

The guy that gave me my one bass lesson in the 70s had an amazing wife (in all respects). She played, bass (electric and double), piano, oboe, flute--all exteamly well and sang like a pro. Her husband was a superb guitarist, played some bass and piano and again, sang like a pro. Did an album in the late 60s. Their oldest son was an amazing bass player. Sadly he passed in a car accident about 10 yrs ago.

Ok... life has gotten weird and I'm not around here much. That'll change, but tonight I plugged my Epi CP into the Peavey T-Max I'd been trying to sell. It's not for sale now. Good God, that Peavey T-Max 115 combo is a monster, esp with my little Birdie. I am utterly won over. I haven't been very good about playing lately, my recording project is a little stalled *because of me*, too much weird and it's gotten into my head. But this little reunion has chased a good deal of the fog out. What a cool wake-up. What a combination, the THUNDERBIRD Classic Pro and this old (in like-new shape) Peavey amp. They were surely made for each other.

I was psyched to make a sound that I actually enjoyed hearing... been a while. I can't wait to roll it onto some sticky, funky club stage and turn the little monster loose. Looking for a proper extension cab next. This thing does my 'Bird justice. That's what ahm talkin' about.
You were missed. @GonePlaid tried to fill your shoes by double posting.

Welcome back and glad that Thunderbird therapy is working.

Had a productive day today. Hung the DiamondLife guitar hanging system in the new music room and brought several more basses to their new home. Hopefully tomorrow I can bring the rest home. Missing my Thunderbirds.
Congrats! I’ve got another 6 footer to go but need to do some rearranging first and frankly get distracted by Thunderbirds.

Decent little combos. I was watching for one to come up around here. Never happened, which says something.

Awesome! I might take some pictures for Warmoth Wednesday :)

Can I throw in a suggestion for Stingray Sunday, for consideration? ;)
