Thunderbird Club

I had an interesting question posed to me last weekend by some friends who aren't in bands: if you could play any venue, what would it be? I had two answers, because it depends how one defines it, whether headliner or support. They were cool with two answers, so mine were 1. direct support to the headliner on the main stage at Download Festival, and 2. Red Rocks Amphitheater.

So where would your ultimate venue(s) be?
That's a really interesting question, and I'm not sure there's an answer. It depends on a whole lot of things - the band, what instrument I'm playing, what time of day. It would be easier to say what part of the world rather than what venue. I think playing in southern Europe somewhere would be a blast. Going on tour there would be even better than just one show. Playing loud music on the upright would be best, but the logistics of doing that would be a nightmare.

Masquerade Atlanta (old stomping grounds, and a beach - any beach - with hot ladies, dudes that are not annoying, and cold beer waiting for the band just off stage.

I want to play a large theater, with a stage set that makes you forget entirely where you are... the set is a post-sunset nighttime sky with a large, golden-pink orb of a moon low on the dark, dark sky. My wife and I sat at the beach one night like this, and it was surreal. I remember saying I wanted to play a show in that kind of environment. Still do.

It's in a theater because I want to recreate that almost unreal, dreamy vision. Real nature is better, but I want to suspend time, see...

That's an absolute knockout right there.

What's up with all the 'Bird love happening in the general population for the last few days, anyway? Are we leaking out? Is this just an anomaly or are we infecting the general population with truth, wisdom, and all that? I'm a little concerned that the rest of the world might figure out what we already know and make us normal somehow. That would be bad.
That's slick.

Maybe people are figuring out that they're actually pretty damn good and that the neck pickup is not that far away from a P-bass sound in terms of the mix.

Main stage at the Roadburn Festival, at the 013 venue.

There can only be one answer: Duna Jam!!!

Kinda deserves being run over by a car, don't you think??? ;)

Maybe the rest of us should start playing Deathrace and see how many "Pokemon'ers" we can "collect"? :)

Yeah, cause it's so horrible that people are walking around outside. How dare they.
Anytime there's a lack of mindfulness, there's trouble near.

But it's a little like when I was a kid and heard some adult saying, "Well so the kid ends up reading something in that Playboy Magazine. At least he's reading!", which makes a certain amount of sense...

I don't think Pokemon Go is really all that much like Playboy. Probably more like comic books older folks complained about kids reading instead of their schoolbooks.

As for road risk... in my state's laws, pedestrians have the right of way. I'm usually pretty bold about taking that right, so I can't really hate on other people for doing the same, even if they are playing a game.

Besides, stupid people will always find some way to be stupid. Hating on everyone playing a game that requires going outside and walking around just cause a couple people are idiots seems pretty douchebaggy to me. Like "what's the matter with these people? why are they going outside and having fun?"

The Playboy remark was just a loose example, the comic comparison is more like it though.
As far as the game itself and players of it, it's a gas, it's a fun gag for the kid in us. You want to be aware of your surroundings is all. You're responsible for your own good time at a keg party too, so no it needn't be an issue really.

I'm just talkin about the big bunch of dumbshags that walk around with their eyes on their phones playin, not payin ANY Attention to traffic. when someone like that stumbles across the street and I hit em with my car cause there's no time to brake I!!! am the one who gets Trouble with the law, not the stupid dumbshag who literally ran into my car, not giving me any Chance to react!

We even had some accidents here in Germany, two weeks from the release of pokeshagpoopie. people running around on Military grounds (the trained with real ammunition there, only by luck None of the Players was killed!), someone drove into a crowd of People b/c he played poke while driving. The park in my town Looks like poopie cause the pokemons spawn there and People linger around waiting for their next garados so there's trash lyin all around (seems like Walking miles to pokemon seems okay but Walking like 30 feet to the next trashcan is too much of an effort)

yes, I hate that game because of all the People who get turned into stupid idiots. maybe they were idiots before but at least they were idiots at home, not on the streets.

When I returned from stoned from the Underground Festival two weeks ago I had my Camping Trailer with me, it's no fun having to a full brake with the Trailer only because Kids are to fixated on pokemon to realise I am driving in their direction. I confronted them, told them to use their eyes and their Brains.... the answer was: "oh shut up, there's a *whateverpokemon* over there".

shag.

It's similar, but bigger and fuller. I still haven't quite got the P sound out of a 'Bird, so that's going to be the next bass guitar - a P-bird. The parts and pieces should be here in a few months, and then it will take me a few more months to get my thumbs out and actually build it. But, it will happen. Flats, but no tort. It's a Thunderbird, fer chrissakes! You don't let a spaghetti puke pickguard anywhere near a Thunderbird.

I don't get the Pokemon thing, but then I don't spend all that much time using the phone for anything except a telephone. My son is the same way, so at least I was able to pass on at least one of the correct genetic defects. He's a trumpet player, not a bass player, so I failed there, but at least he has a Thunderbird if he ever decides to play bass. Any guesses where it came from?

;)

Red Rocks is the bombastic! Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. The last place SRV played. *sniffle sniffle, sure miss that guy*

I've been to Red Rocks, Alpine Valley and Sandstone in KC. All good places to hear music.
I'd rate them as #1 Red Rocks, #2 Sandstone, #3 Alpine Valley. But #s 2 & 3 could be reversed I just liked Sandstone better as it seems more personal.
But Red Rocks is so far out in front being #2 or 3 is an afterthought.

You sound old. It's really no different from any other phone related thing. Some people use their phones responsibly. Some people are just dumb and talk on the cell phone or text while driving.

I don't know what the laws are like in Germany, but here, pedestrian has the right of way in the crosswalk. People have gotten annoyed at me for crossing when they had to stop, before, and I wasn't playing pokemon, I was just walking from point A to point B. I don't care if they're mad. The crosswalk is there for a reason.
