Thunderbird Club

It's Formica Friday.
My Reverend Rumblefish 5L in very rare Blackwood finish (1 of 4 made). Plays wonderfully.

Thanks! I don't own anything in the "p-bass ball park" so this seemed like a good candidate to take for a test drive. Got it used in the classifieds on TB from a motivated seller.

I had a 77' P-bass for a short while back in the mid 1990's. The neck on that felt pretty massive and ultimately while I sold it.

The quality of the Musci Man is pretty awesome. Have swap out the Ti Flats for some rounds and take it to band practice tomorrow.

I'm working on it. Still holding out for an Eppi NR VP in Cream or Sea foam green or Shell Pink. If it doesn't happen by mid summer I'll try to grab one of the new Gibby NR birds in green or red.

Then there's always the project bass I'd like to start when I get time and space to build another one - it'll be a slim line semi hollow body NR II goldtop with cream binding and cream pup (from a JC bass along with the controls) and cream guard with a Les Paul S shaped sound hole, possibly a piezo bridge and a Fender Starcaster neck and gold hardware. I figure it'll cost about $2500 to build and will have serious neck dive (without the detachable headstock) but sounds like fun and should sound completely different from my other birds.

Make it a headless bird, then attach a lightweight head prosthesis.

I’m pretty sure this is answered somewhere in our illustrious T-Bird forum but does anyone know where to get a decent replacement Gibson bass case handle? The ones on Amazon and other online sources appear to need additional work to make them usable. Leather on metal will wear out without some sort of coating or plastic located between the leather and the metal bracket on the case. I’ve been using old bass strings as the handle for decades now (DR heavies last forever it seems), but I would love to replace it with a proper handle.

That's what you get for trying to catch one I guess?
LOL - yeah, that's why I wore leather gloves to land it and a ten foot steel leader vs nylon fishing line. Strictly catch and release so I don't know how they taste, but I'd be pretty leery about eating a 5 foot long bottom feeder out of the Sacramento delta.

That's something I don't understand. Putting an animal through that agony for fun.

That's beautiful. Please let me know if you ever decide to sell it.

:) Thanks, I will - I do these projects to sell, and then I fall in love with them and don't want to sell them! But time and new projects can loosen up my grip on them. When I begin a project I never know how it's going to sound/play as they usually require a lot of work. This one was ok when I got it but all my work resulted in it being really good.

eBay could turn up something that works - I've bought a few there but not specifically "Gibson".

Please don't take this as a troll, but why are more needed? Perhaps the music I've played the last 53 years? Country, Classic, or Hard Rock, I've never needed to go above G19.

I have a few 24 fret necked basses also. Agreed that a standard repertoire doesn't require more than 20 frets but I deliberately invent passages at the end/heal of any neck I own. I do the same with my Ex-Factor neck creating something that takes advantage of the lower A. (strung BEAD) It may be an accent or feature within a bass-line/structure but my aim is to incorporate it musically into a song or solo piece where it adds expressive emphasis. It works especially well doubling a guitarists' brief lead fills between changes.

This '60s 15 fret Dano could probably suffice in 98% of bass needs ;)

Ok, makes sense. I frequently see where people say if only it had 21 frets and so on. BTW, I do have multiple basses with more than 20, but wasn't looking for more, they came with them.
