My Dad played clarinet/sax and did arranging in the 28th Division Army Band during WWII and continued playing(not his main gig)in Miami after the war. I started on piano at age 7, then clarinet/saxes through junior/senior high; went in the Navy in late 64 as a Musician(yes, that was my job), then picked up bass in 67 while stationed in Charleston, SC.
Most of my playing since separating from "the canoe club"* has been on bass, occasionally as a mediocre-at best-keyboardist/saxist. The folks always supported my forays into the world of professional music though my Dad was not a fan of the R&R genre. However, most of the bands I've played with did a variety of standards, dinner music, and dance tunes, so on the rare occasions my 'oldies' came to hear us, they liked some of what we did.
