I'll second the Black Beauties on any bass where the top end needs to be tamed down a bit. Might be the perfect string for the @KaraQ bird with the deep six pups (which I think she said are a bit bright).

I think she also mentioned the new CAR Eppi (God, I love the look of that bass) is her darkest sounding bird. Cobalt Flats on that bass might make it a super serious bass slayer.

La Bella Black Tapes on my FrankenGoth sound exquisite, piano like crystal clear, nearly baritone guitar sound. The perfect bass/string combo to do chord and harmonics work as well as bass lines that track closely with the melody. On my 2015 they give it the necessary breathing room from the overly powerful pups to really open up, so far the only string I've liked on the 2015.

Haven't tried Burners yet, but they do get a lot of love around here.

A '64 would be my Birth Year/Bucket List/ Dream 'Bird bass, but I can't justify the prices they sell for.
Well, I can justify their asking prices - I just can't bring myself to spend that much on a single instrument.
For the price of a genuine '64 I could have six new VPs, refinished in a plethora of vintage-correct colors & modded with new pickups, D-tuners and custom pickguards, and still have enough left over for a Hawaiian getaway with the Missus.

LOL! That's certainly a nice thought! But I'm not going to saddle him with my debt, I have it really good with him as it is, he's a sweetheart of a guy, even my Mom adores him!

Unfortunate story that I may have mentioned at some point. I had a friend that I knew for several years and we used to always kid about people being stupid and I would say, "yeah, the family tree just don't fork much." We would always laugh about it. Years later, to my whore, I found out that his father was also his grandfather..... (I have really bad words to describe such people as his "father/grandfather." Forgiveness is a challenge there. I agree with Charlie Daniels on what should be done to such people.) Needless to say I felt sick to my stomach, but being such a wonderful person he made every attempt to make me not feel bad about it.
