This bass and a matching Firebird were done as promos for Hawaiian Tropic, I remember seeing them back on "The Dudepit" at least 12-15 years ago, so they're legit to that extent. Wish the hardware was chrome, but that's just me

Just looked at the listing again - I didn't realize the bass was 18 years old!
I like the color, and the fretboard appears to be ebony which should add a touch of brightness to the tone.
I've owned a few Custom Shop Les Pauls, and the playability and tone were usually a step above regular production models.
As much as I like it, I could get 2 of the new non-reverse Birds for less than they want for this one.

Oddly, he doesn't collect for fins (finish colors) just types - Germany will happen again though, pretty much a given.

Hm. Interesting. I woulda thought he'd be curious about a 'one-off'.
BTW, I bought the EpiBird 5er from that seller. Good guy to deal with-says he's taking offers.

I think it's more about specifics, like this being a 3 pup.

Unfortunate story that I may have mentioned at some point. I had a friend that I knew for several years and we used to always kid about people being stupid and I would say, "yeah, the family tree just don't fork much." We would always laugh about it. Years later, to my whore, I found out that his father was also his grandfather..... (I have really bad words to describe such people as his "father/grandfather." Forgiveness is a challenge there. I agree with Charlie Daniels on what should be done to such people.) Needless to say I felt sick to my stomach, but being such a wonderful person he made every attempt to make me not feel bad about it.

I've looked at that bass several times and really liked the color and uniqueness of it but the price is about 50% higher than I'd be willing to go. For my money I like this one better...

REALLY diggin' the Hawaiian Tropic, for some reason. (not a fan of yellow, but dig orangey-amber)
Not so much liking the sticker, but the rest of it...
I even like the black hardware, but would have to swap to all-chrome, as per TBird1958's suggestion, just to try that out — can always swap back to black.

Don't know the price, don't want to know the price based on comments about the price. So...

Easy enough to replicate?

Bingo!
Pretty much any color can be replicated on a neck through Thunderbird for around $600 or less, even cheaper with bolt on Eppi birds. So paying a premium greater than $600 for a specific color run bird starts to get into diminishing returns. The back story for the Hawaiian Tropic bird adds a bit of extra value as well but not a ton. Now if you already owned the other two guitars in the promo photo the asking price might be a bit more realistic to complete a very unique set.

LOL - I don't buy basses from over seas sellers for this very reason. Who knows if it would ever make it through customs, or if it would survive the journey unscathed. I'd assume $95 to ship something half way around the world is going to involve some pretty sketchy shipping methods. And your recourse should something go wrong, is???

There's a reason it's still listed on reverb and not on its way to my house.
