As for the sound comparison....from what I can tell so far, I feel like the Black Beauties are slightly brighter. I'll play them for a bit to get a better feel for the sound, before I try the Nexus set :)

Funny, in the light the blacks look kinda silver.

Reds are nice....

Funny, I have a white J with a tort guard and a bridge cover, but no pu cover...

I usually remove covers, but make an exception on this bass. ('66) I normally play over the bridge pu so it's never in the way. On my other J's, no covers.

Obviously, I live in the wrong neighborhood. No matter how much I water my plants, I never see a Jazz poppin' out.
Is it the pic angle or the purple Jazz is one of'em longhorns ?

California baby!

Yes, initially an (alder bodied) '93 American Standard... but heavily modded; Schaller Deluxe sculpted F-tuners (it came with a standard set), "relic'd" Burgundy Mist Metallic re-fin by MJT, lightened/chambered body (under the pg), custom-cut mint pearl pg, '93 FCS/Kubicki 9v pre, Schaller 3D bridge, Nordy NJ4 (passive) pu's. Killer tone/sound. The J I most grab. "cutting through" is an understatement.

And to stay in line (on Thunderbird Thursday) - I have a T-bird shaped object with the same FCS/Kubicki 9v pre - again - killer.

That does it. Live Dates tonight for me. I love Wishbone Ash.

When I got my '63 II in '74, I saw Wishbone Ash shortly after that. I learned the bass solo on one of their albums... can't find it now. Was it Handy? ...

If ever there was a guy that could play a Strat - Robin Trower, with the late James Dewar on the Gibson EB and Reg Isidore on the drums.

Yah, Robin Trower ran with the ball that Jimi dropped - until Stevie Ray Vaughn came along...

Can't fake a Strat - it's an indelible sound in rock history.

Robin's first two albums, esp "Bridge of Sighs"....ethereal, SRV never quite got there for me.

Cool Tribute.

These echo-y, dirge-y songs/performances were very characteristic of that period. You just don't hear that anymore. It's very emotive/introspective (yah, I know - pot helped in this respect) but honestly - it's like modern audiences can't handle "deep" music anymore. sad

Stevie Ray stayed with blues, which Jimi was based (and both from Texas) - but Robin pushed the medium into a different space being British.
