Thunderbird Club

Spent this sunday on a road trip from Copenhagen to Berlin to see Ministry live... :)

Amazing show: The band gave a full set with encores twice - A complete assault on the senses, and very hard, fast and loud...

The bass player Jason Christopher played a Spector Rex 4.

Here's a link to their show at Wacken Open Air two days earlier:

Note to one self: Remember to remove hearing aid before going to a show... I'm on my second day of tinnitus... :/

I said "eh, what the hell, it's only $30" and bought them. No idea if they're functional, though, as they seem suspiciously cheap.
That's my kind of behavior. I have a junk drawer full of stuff like that, and it comes in handy sometimes. I can't leave anything alone except the 2001 'Bird.

Hopefully I'll get a special dispensation as this bass isn't a Thunderbird. Built by John Diggens of Jaydee Guitars it is a exact replica of Jim Lea's John Birch bass. John Diggens built the original while working at Birch in the '70s. John Diggens got Jimmy to put his bass up as a pattern. It seems Jimmy a know recluse these days was pretty chuffed that someone in the USA was paying attention. Online UK friends Ian Edmonson and Stu Rutter gave me invaluable information and history about Jimmy's bass, Stu even sent off a 70's Birch bridge and other bits to JD help with the project. The bass features 70's John Birch pickups kindly supplied by Diggen's, built in distortion circuit, the volume knob for the distortion circuit is from Jim's bass and is signed by Jimmy. It was a thrill of a life time to get this bass made. I'm a Slade fanatic I suppose I also have one of their Hiwatt DR201s and Jimmy's flight case.

Dragging posts from the dim and distant past but flippin eck, Jim Lea is one of my heros, got to see Slade a few times, once as a wee nipper in the early 70s and a few times in 1980 one being the notable Reading festival which was awesome beyond belief. Mee "SLADE..... YESSSS" everyone else "effin Slade, what the..." but not at the end, simply awesome band, much under rated sadly

Hello all my Tbird brothers and sisters. It's with a heavy heart that I make this post. I am offering here before I post it to the classifieds. Due to my daughter going to university and such I am putting up for sale my Gibson Blackbird. This bass has less than an hour play time on it. It has spent it's life in the case. I bought it a few years ago and thought one day I'd get it signed and frame it, but that hasn't happened and other things are more important(new computer, tires, etc). When I say mint it is mint. I don't know what to ask for it as I see them on fleabay for outrageous prices. I just want a fair price for it so I will leave it up to someone to offer? Pictures can/will be sent upon request. PM me if you have any questions or anything. Cheers.

:( Sorry to hear it, Dallas. Good luck with the sale. I'm sure someone is going to be getting an absolutely mint Blackbird because if that's what you say it is, I trust it to be true.

I hope you get every penny you believe it to be worth!

Thanks Larry. Ya it's a tough decision to say the least, but a small sacrifice in the greater scheme of things. Kids come first. Here's a peek at it with just one picture. I don't want to post more here because I don't want to clutter up the thread.

Boy do I ever know what you are talking about! Our son graduated from college a few years ago, and it was the biggest raise I have ever got. Before he graduated, it was the biggest expense we ever had, and that was with loans, grants, and everything else. I sure hope you get a good price for it, and that your kids do really well at school and beyond.

Some of us (um, I'm looking in a mirror now) clutter up the thread with all kinds of other things. Your 'Bird is hardly clutter.

You guys are way too kind. Well, if you insist here's some more pictures. The only thing not original are the strap locks. They were on it when I got it shipped from Seattle. I've plugged it in a couple of times and that's it. It's been hidden away. In full disclosure, the little marks on the neck aren't dings. I could wipe them off, but I didn't know what to use so as not to mark the paint. Also, the whitish on the opti grab is a wax or something from factory. It wipes off, but I thought it would show how little this has even been handled. Thanks again for the wishes and the positive vibes. I still have my player tbirds so I'm not leaving the club.....EVER!

Redstrand, how is that wired?
The switch is a parallel/series setup. down is series. Totally dig it. Gives it that extra tbird growl. I picked this up cheap and its a bit beat, the cavity already had plenty of room for the hole and switch....so modding it was the first thing on my mind. I need new tuners at some point, these stick too much.
