Thunderbird Club

I have and used to use a volume pedal... but it doesn't fit in my enclosed (transport) effect pedal train box (yah, I know - they make mini version now...)... when gigging, it's all about quick set-up and break-down. No room for an outboard pedal... other than my Sonic Stomp. (but that is a necessity)

That Morley is smaller than most.

I was experimenting with my two distortion-type effects tonight, and thought my new footswitch wasn't working correctly, or I had a setting on the amp wrong, or something. I seemed to have distortion all the time

So, just for the lulz & experiments, I switched from the Blackbird to the Redbird.....and the problem went away

Somehow, I'd forgotten the Blackbird had higher output than even my active basses :bag:

It gives low-level distortion even in the -10db amp input for active basses. And is noticeably louder. :bassist:

Who needs a battery anyways......

When I was in High School I was in a "combo". :bassist:
...when I was in high school I was usually in trouble.

Man... I have been checking the prices on the Grecos lately and they have risen up like crazy... way too expensive IMO, plus, I've seen that same model for less than 1K not so long ago, what's happening?
You're right, over the last year the asking prices have gone up a bunch. Makes one wonder if all our positive banter about the Greco is being monitored by those selling.

This is the thing - pre internet we "heard" explanations for things but usually had no way of confirming it. So these 'things' kept being passed on word of mouth and we accepted it. I never understood how Fender could successfully send a "cease and desist" order concerning the shape/look of a gen1 T-bird because it "looked too much like" a Fender bass (???) Seems silly in retrospect.
And now in the internet age, those stories get passed around at higher speed and frequency. Accuracy hasn't changed. ;)

There are trademarked shapes for guitars and basses. You recall that Dingwall had to change the shape of their "thunderbird" and I think the Dean litigation is ongoing (or at least I don't recall hearing of a settlement). To maintain a trademark, you have to pursue all infringements else you lose it. So, no matter how little it matters, you have to send the cease and desist.

Cease and desist letters sound threatening, but really, they are a conversation starter.

I don't really get to push my amp either (apartment :( ), and to get the built-in o/d to where I like it makes the amp a bit too loud.
The volume pedal helps with that, though, since I've got it connected through the effects loop. It lets me adjust output volume without affecting the preamp settings.

Now that I've got the Peavey footswitch, I can more easily switch the amp o/d on & off - which lets me set up two different sounding distortion effects :smug:
There's a small box that can be used to cut the volume to the cab when the head if cranked. Can't think of what it's called right now, but it's something I've considered interesting. Sounds like you are using the volume pedal in that way.
