I almost impulse bought your Blackbird. I came very close to just doing it for the sake of having it. But much like your situation, it would be stored away in its case and unplayed. Then I snapped out of it... do i really need another bass that sits in its case in my walk-in closet? No, was my conclusion. I may never run across a "factory mint" Blackbird again and especially at that price but I really needed to move on because owning it just didn't make sense.

Don't I know that feeling... ;)

Thanks Larry! I tried to price it fair. There is one on "the bay" for the same price with a headstock repair so I thought my price was ok. Other than the sheer coolness of having that bass in new condition I didn't have much attachment to it(I know...I know...public flogging to follow). I have another blackbird with lots of playwear and thanks to Gaolee it will keep getting played. He gave me a 3 point off his old tbird. I have an attachment to that one as I've played it tons and like a used car, I didn't put the first scratch in it. It's all good......maybe. Now, where can I get one of the non reverse or a Greco? Hahaha! Kidding, time to settle in for a trip through university for my oldest and high school for my younger. Cheers!

Like you I sold my clean Blackbird and kept the modified and well played Blackbird. I'm not worried about scratches or dings (short of a headstock break) and feel free to play crap out of it without fear of hurting resale value.

When does it not make sense to own another bird? HAHA! I would have loved you to buy it! :hyper:

If it hadn't been across the Atlantic I would have snapped it up, incredible price in the UK and the condition was second to none, some sod had a bargain, I hope they enjoy it and look after it

I would have had to personally deliver it. My heritage is Welsh and I have been wanting to get there to follow the family tree back. THAT would have been cool!

EXACTLY THIS! My other one is still stock, but there is a crazy story that goes along with how it came to me. Too long for here, but it was meant to be. The bird finds you correct?

Blimey! Do you know where from in Wales (Cymru)? I'm in the far north west on the island of Anglesey (Ynys Mon). It's a fantastic country, has it's own language which is one of the oldest in Europe and far outdates English. Make the effort, it's worth it, as is Canada of course, I imagine similar in many ways just bigger and colder

Only in the winter, here's the current temperature where I'm at (in metric for your convenience)

My aunt and uncle traced it back and kept the paperwork that they had gathered over a fairly long period of time. As they have both passed on, I'm guessing my cousins have it. I've met those cousins a total of twice. Too far apart in age and they lived across the country. I've asked a few times for anything, something to point the way and zip! I'll keep hounding my Mom to ask them haha! Yes, both countries are beautiful in their own way. There are lots of places here that aren't cold, not many, but some!

There was a lot of emigration from Wales about 150 years ago, times were hard here due to English oppression so may Welsh families emigrated to the new world. The most famous example is the large Welsh community in Patagonia which to this day still speak the home tongue as well as Spanish. Much of this movement of people came from the north of Wales so it's quite possible your family came from this area, the home of Owain Glyndwr

Yes. You don't get to choose whether you are a 'Bird person. 'Birds choose you and then you become a 'Bird person.

Totally possible. I try to get all the history I can. I've even joined the Welsh Club here in my city. They have two or three events a year. We also just had the Heritage Festival. Tens of countries are represented as you can imagine. For years I have gone and I always get a new Welsh t shirt at their big tent, eat some food and visit. Pretty cool for me. This year we were playing a gig in Vancouver that same weekend. Dammit! I'll call the office and get a shirt sent out. Ha!
