Thunderbird Club

Had a mid 70's P bass for years. Looking back, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Think that many other companies make Fender styles that are better made and sounding. I played several levels of Fender Jazz basses a couple of weeks ago and the sound and quality were all over the place. Some MIMs sounded better than some US made ones. Some Squiers were great, others of same line were bad.

It's a sad reflection on how these companies are run these days, living on a reputation hard won but now cashing in on it putting current profits first. I know each single guitar will sound a little different due to variations in the timber they're made from but there's no way that there should be vast differences between similar instruments like that. It seems that this comes as a surprise to some people all the same, blind insistance that a MIA bass will by default be better than a MIM or even a MIIndonesia and even if they played them side by side I doubt they would have the sense to differentiate differences especially if they weren't as expected

Yes but there are 9 layers on the classic not 7

Excuse the shot on the bed but at least it's made, no way I'm getting my arse spanked publicly. Excuse the sheets too, missus chose them

You're doing it wrong!

Just gouge the crap out of it - Lots of 'Bird humpin' going here.

I was going to ask if that arrangement is legal in TX...
Ever thang's legal in Texas. So long as it's Austin.

I got a chance to flog the 2002 for three sets last night. At an Eagles Hall. Lemme tell ya, that's hitting the big time! It sure was fun, and there's some magic hiding in that particular bass guitar. I like the other ones a whole lot, but it's just a more enthusiastic dance partner. It doesn't balance quite as well as the '91 or '15, but it just has something that's hard to define. No .308 belt, though. I might need one of those.

There were a few people taking pictures. I'll post 'em if they ever filter down to the bass player.

Love hurts. You know if you've been loved because you have scars. :)

And same for your bass!

Nazareth, I saw them about '75 or '76, sat out front of the Paramount in Seattle from noon on. Sat about 8 rows back on Pete Agnew's side of the stage, he played an EB-3 through 3 Marshall stacks, F*&%^$@ roared! I can only imagine what it must have been like to play a hugh rig like that.

God. Must be like that, more or less.

Now there's a good reminder keep my Aria EB-3.

As a person who hasn't played through a really big stack, but who does play through an Acoustic 360 on a regular basis, I can tell you that being able to be heard on the moon is a lot of fun. After a show I was playing the upright through the new 360M, a guy in the audience came up to me and mentioned that the bass was resonating in his chest cavity at the back of the venue. That's power, baby!

All I know if them is that they and Jim Capaldi both had a song "Love Hurts" out at the same time. The radio station I listened to chose to play Jim Capaldi. Can't remember if they were the same song or just same title.

'Love Hurts' was written by Boudleaux Bryant and originally sung by the Everly Brothers in the '50s. Nazareth's and Capaldi's version are the same song.

Fender's are fine but not the be all/end all that people make them out to be. A lot of the Fender copy's are much better basses IMO. I don't hate Fender, just don't care about them one way or the other. And I have owned plenty (my first bass was a 1964 P) that were nice but never connected with them. To each their own on what brand model they prefer. I don't need to fit a mold with my gear preferences.

Spot on Andy! Pretty much nailed my sentiments as well. My first bass was also a Fender USA P which I've since sold, I still have a Fender MIJ P and a Squier P which I bought cheap as a purely practice bass.

Ouch! Looks somewhat similar to my BC Rich (Rico) Mockingbird which has some serious belt rash on the back, not only ate away at the finish, also gouged the piss out of the wood.
I look at it as battle scars, we did some serious battle on the boards back in the 80's! :)
