Thunderbird Club

The tactile aspect of Flats........it almost creeps me out. Sorry, I love my calloused Rounds playin' fingers!

Dr Hellborg's, so coarse!

Exact opposite here, I can’t play rounds due to my hand injury, even before that I preferred flats for the feel

Used the white '76 ("Super Rare!) today after installing the new truss rod nut and time to adjust. I settled on Roto 66s (and even had a small blister on the left middle finger). The bass played great and sounded better than ever! Very happy camper while playing. I literally don't get all the whining on the interwebs about them being so hard on the fingers. There are more smooth strings, but Roto's don't deserve all the complaints. There's a bunch of people who need to start a Roto Princess Fingers Club it seems.
first world problem...

I love the feel of flats. Likely half ore more of my basses have them.

Wow! They do indeed look it. I've never tried those. Yet. What is it you like about them, if you don't mind?

They have a really strong fundamental, I don't like them on all my basses - I'm probably going to put some on the Jackson next time I buy strings......I don't know this guy.............

the Speakon design is clever, avoids the connectior coming off and in many cases (unbeknownst to the user) avoids guitar (line level) cables from being used as speaker cables where the capacitance in the hum reduction shield can cause output stages (especially Tube types) to oscillate and self destruct. many don’t know that a true to spec Speakon will accommodate 1/4” phono as well...

cheaper types don’t support this option giving the erroneous “either or” idea.....
quality affordable cables?....these;

I think the green Neutrik speakon panel connectors are the ones that can accept a 1/4” plug and the black ones do not.
@agedhorse has warned many times about generic brand speakon plugs getting stuck in amps, so I’ll repeat it here. Neutrik brand speakon connectors are not expensive. Using a knockoff to save a few dollars is not worth it.

Lots of stuff I didna know. Thx guys.

I was thinking about a Youtube with Lull......

While trying out the amp yesterday, another bass player saw I was using an Epi Thunderbird and came over to chat about basses in general and Birds in particular. Had a thought for you guys, he started talking about Mike Lull basses and how wonderful they are.

I was a sailor, not a solder.

Some of us Mikes are good with water, eh ? ;)

Well, that, and I didn't wanna be a 'ground pounder'.

Mike made wonderful basses ( his family is continuing the business, which was planned for ), he was the kind of guy that made you happy you knew him, always treated me like a rock star and did the best work on all my basses - I do love my Lull

Thanks! Who ever you are.... Wait a minute. You can't fool me. I've seen you before. You're some kind of internet/social media influencer. :D

They sound like they have something of a beefy or thickness to them. I'll have to listen again with something other than my macbook. Thanks for posting!

My top 2 choices for rounds on my ‘Birds have been set for awhile now, but I do love flats on some basses for certain gigs. Just for fun going to try a set of D’addario Chromes. They sound nice on a buddy’s P bass, but I have no idea what I’ll think of em on my T Bird

for whatever it's worth....Chromes and T-Bucker 66s....really dig the combo.

Not that I've tried a ton of different strings but I do really like the tone, tension and general feel of the Chromes I have on a few of my basses.
