I propose a new Club rule...

Soldering is an easy skill and a decent soldering iron, I choose to use a soldering gun, is very inexpensive.

Just last week, my kids' band was rehearsing when the lead guitarist's Strat went silent. A cable swap didn't fix it, nor did a different amp so we had to dig deeper and sure enough, a solder break at the input jack was the problem. I grabbed my soldering gun and the kids were back in action within minutes.

Every T-bird here forthwith to sold or purchased, traded or borrowed shall have a Solder-Gun Holster permanently attached to its strap, or other place befitting such a device on the body or headstock of the instrument such that it does not impede the playing of said instrument, yet remains readily accessible in the unlikely event that something should go wrong with a fellow band-member's (or rival bands') gear.

Of course, members will have acquired the necessary skills to wield the solder-gun in a responsible manner — no welding the drummer's steel-toed boot to the kick-drum pedal (but Hi-Hat could be funny).

Would be interested to know what your signal chain was on that recording. Any mixing in garage band or something similar to get the bass balance right and what you're using to shoot the video (go pro, iPhone, laptop...).

I respectfully disagree. Having only one Thunderbird on which to try Chromes ignores the potential for finish colour to impact tone. I suggest that at least two new Thunderbirds are needed to compare Chromes with more than one finish.

A soldering iron is a single-task tool. It would be better to include a tool that has more uses. For instance, a flame thrower could be used for soldering as well as many other incendiary actiities.

LOL - I just looked at my BestBuy receipt - a couple of weeks ago I paid $20 for my 1.5m 4K Ultra HD fancy schmantzy cables, and I remember thinking at the time, what a marketing scheme, the A/V guys are at it again.

The "at it again" comment is in reference to the never ending upgrade path I went down with my A/V component system over a 20 year period.

Started out with a nice high end HiFi set up in stereo in the mid 1980's, then just had to upgrade to a surround sound system with two additional speakers and a Dolby processor, then a year later just had to upgrade to a monster subwoofer with a 15" speaker, then a year or two later a center channel was a necessity along with a 5.1 integrated amp. Not long after that I had to get rid of all the speakers and amp and get a balanced 7.1 system with front, center, side and rear speakers and a new subwoofer. Of course it didn't end there, a rear center channel and new amp was necessary in short order along with a second subwoofer for an astounding 8.2 system.

At that point (2013) I sold the house and since the projection TV, Screen and all the speakers were built into the walls they stayed with the house along with all the amps and DVD and CD and DAC and Linear turntable and receiver and equalizers and ...

At last I was free of the wallet emptying A/V early adopter syndrome - until last month when I dangled a toe back in the water again with a 4K big screen and wireless surround sound system. This time I told myself, No Upgrades! We'll see how long that lasts.

Thank God, I'm not stupid enough to pay $27/foot for a cable...

I’m still living in the eighties as far as Stereo AV. Sounds good to me. We don’t watch enough tv/movies to justify the fancy tv setup. I’d rather spend money on music gear that’s way better than I am.

What’s funny about those expensive HDMI cables is the longer ones are easily more expensive than fibre optic cable (the real kind, not the plastic audio stuff) and a set of media converters.

Sorry if this is the wrong way to go about this. I’m kinda new here and I’m not sure how the “club” thing works.....

I’ve got an Epi Thunderbird 60s bass (vintage pro) on the way and I’m trying to find an affordable gig bag that it’ll fit in. MF told me this one would work -

It showed up today and I’m skeptical. Spec sheet says it’s got 48” length inside, but my tape measure says more like 46-1/2.

What I really want to know is either;
1) can someone who has one of the T-birds give me a point to point measurement from the tip of the body to the crown of the headstock, or......

2) Does anybody out there with one of these have a gig bag that’s decent and fits, for less than a C-note?

We're so much more sophisticated than the other Talkbass Clubs. And chatty too.

Well for brevity I actually skipped a step for discussion, but I knew what the comments would be: Various form of "Buy."

We do have some decorum and class here. It's not like people wear watermelons on their heads like some low class places.

I was cautiously trying to ease Marshall into a purchase, knowing he would quickly detect the gratuitous nature of going for more. Once he gets another, we can always suggest more. One bird at a time fill an aviary.
