Correct, the CP stopped production about two or three years ago, so used is the only way to find one. They’re becoming scarcer over here. For example, the only CP I see on Reverb today is a NOS white one in Kuala Lumpur for $688 + 180 shipping.

Even being an Ampeg lover, I certainly understand why you'd say that. Those are both excellent features. And the amp itself ain't too bad either!

don’t get me wrong, the Ampeg as master works well also especially with that graphic EQ and but in reality, I used both rigs together at a gig only once...no need these days..

With Gibson pickup and rosewood fingerboard, how could the CP way cheaper?

It's older and discontinued. It isn't the newest and shiniest. But nor is it 'vintage'. So it sells at a discount to the VP (new and shiny).

We usually try to survive without it until Memorial Day. Had to turn it on last week. And the water temp in the pool is swimable; earliest I can recall for that.

Whereas we’ve had the heat on more than the A/C this weak. Very odd for central Texas mid-may.

Hey guys, I'm might purchase a Thunderbird next month. Can anybody compare Classic pro vs Vintage pro?
From what I read and heard, the VP are more brighter and vintage accurate. But, the CP are cheaper $200+ (NOS), have gibson pickup, and have rosewood fingerboard. Can anyone explain me?

The CP is “darker” or more like a modern Gibson bird. Lots of low end, decent upper mids. The VP (rebranded as 60s) has s bit less low end, but all the upper mids and highs (for a bass) anyone is likely to want.
My CP does things like early Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Grand Funk, and Motown with ease. But if you want something more like the Who or Yes, you definitely want the VP.
They’re both excellent basses.

The Classic is a really nice bass as well, certainly an excellent choice. Maybe a little more difficult to find than a VP, as I think they're out of production.

Yes, for at least a year now. They disappeared from the Epi site during last year’s NAMM show, and started drying up at dealers not long after- or in some cases before.

If you are looking for the current Gibson sound, then a CP will work just fine. The main difference besides the Epiphone name is that the Epi is poly finished and a Gibson will be nitro. I'm not convinced that it makes any difference in sound. You can also get a lot of different sounds from any Thunderbird by playing it different ways and using different strings.

Disclaimer: I don't own a CP or a VP.

Great collection, but what really caught my eye was the Cavalier plaques.

My mom's had Cavaliers for years! She usually has three, but the eldest passed on a few years ago leaving a sister & brother (from different litters, but same parents). The sister just passed a month ago, at 14. Her little brother, a Ruby, I brought home from the kennel with my folks — a nine-hour drive both ways — so on the return trip he really bonded with me. He loved to crawl under the covers as a pup, I thought I'd wake up one morning with a squashed puppy (fit in the palm of my hand, literally). He still loves to burrow under the covers.

So my Mom's been looking after "my" dog for a while now. Sadly, I think he will be the last Cavalier in the household.


BTW, I like the Tbird that's closest to the Cavaliers...

My guy has said for awhile now the end of June. Brian (@bylar13) called Gibson the other day and was told it will likely be the end of July now. I can wait. It’ll be sweet whenever it gets here.

ya I read Brian's post. That could be due to Sweet waters order vs when they would be available for people to buy stock. There may be a commitment to retailers first.
