Thunderbird Club

‘Chef,’ aka Alan Loshbaugh passed away. He was a very popular mod here on TB. Had the pleasure of hanging with him some and we often exchanged friendly texts and fb messages. He will be sorely missed
So sad to hear this. I followed a lot of Chef's posts and purchased gear from him in the past. Great guy, I'll miss his insight and humor.

Not that I need another TBird, but I'm very curious about the difference in sound between the Greco II which I have and a Greco IV. So long story short, I have a Greco IV on order. Will be able to A/B the two and report back in a couple of weeks. There's a chance I might only keep the one that speaks to me the most, if so there might be a bird floating around looking for a new home.

I’m likely picking up a Greco IV on Monday, but I was hoping to score a II, which don’t seem to pop up often

Hey guys, I already tried the VP and I really don't like it. The NOS CP one not arrived yet so I can't tell. But for comparison, I tried an Allen Woody Epiphone while in store and like the sound (not really on the look). So, how's the CP sound? Is it closer to VP or Allen Woody?
Apple and oranges. If you tried the VP and didn't like it you might or might not like the CP. The CP sounds nothing like the Allen Woody so I wouldn't recommend that reference point. If you thought the VP was too bright and agressive then you might like the CP which is a bit darker and smoother. If you thought the VP was too dark then you probably won't like the CP at all. Between the two basses, I find the VP with Cobalt Flats sits more forward in the mix and the CP with Cobalt Flats lays back a bit more for a solid foundation.

I know it's a very different animal. From my description, am I going to love the CP? I really love Thunderbird shape and not so much on AW (from looks)
Only you can determine if you love it or not. Maybe you can point out what you didn't like about the VP and that would help us better know what kind of tone you are shooting for. It all depends on what you didn't like in the VP as to how much you may/may not love the CP. Also, what something sounds like in a store is not going to be all that helpful unless they have a same amp you have at home. If if it's the same, a bigger room at a store still isn't going to sound like your home. All kinds of things to consider that go into how it will sound, so if you could take one home or take your amp to the store would really be helpful.

If a bass sounded fantastic, I really wouldn't care that much about the looks, assuming it played well. How comfortable and well made it is would be higher on the list for me personally.

thank you! Looks like I'm set with NOS CP. They sell it for 550 US$ (include hardcase). It's a good deal, isn't it?

He and I were friends on Facebook and I knew he’d been in precarious health for quite some time. Just heard the news myself within the last hour or so

I'll miss him a lot, we moderators have very active discussions about the forum and reported posts, Alan was always inciteful, funny and kind. I will genuinely miss him.

Love my Greco II, @ChuckyStiletti has an IV and I think he's really enjoying it as well - just means you nNEED one of each

No, that's not a good deal. It's a great deal! You can't find NOS inventory on these in the US. It's basically the exact same sound and look as a Gibson Thunderbird IV for 1/4th of the price. If you can still get one, grab it.

cmiiw, but that's the price people seems to ask, used, and without hardcase? But I need to pick now between Alpine White or Vintage Sunburst (I need to wait few weeks to get the VS tho)

From a resale standpoint, alpine white seems to be harder to find and might get a higher asking price than standard Burst if you ever decide to sell it down the road.

Got the same going with the MiL who’s 79, pretty harsh. they are proposing a modern type of shock treatment that apparently helps with the depression but we are not sure. seems like it all started overnight. feel for you Man.

I feel for you and your family as well. The past month has been a rapid decline for my MIL. She is having as many bad days as good lately. Hoping they can at least give her some kind of meds to stabilize her and reduce the delusions. I feel bad for anyone going through this. I can't imagine how terrifying some of this is for them.

Sorry to hear this, Andy. I know you and Patti will do all you can to help her mom. Prayers for all involved.

Mi dispiace molto. Preghero' per Lei e la tua famiglia.

A deal. Jump on it!

Thanks Larry.

You have my sympathies. I am currently going through something similar; my mum is dying of cancer. Back in January, we went through all the documents - power of attorneys, will, funeral arrangements, etc. Been working on long term care/palliative care for when she can no longer look after herself. Also discussed how much treatment she wants. Yesterday we discussed the fact that she needs to make a list of people we should call. It is difficult to discuss someone's death with them. And the terrible thing is that we don't know when - next week, next month, next year...

Sorry to hear about your mother. We lost our mother to breast cancer two years ago. There were several uncomfortable discussions about "final wishes" towards the end. Its a completely different type of discussion than one you have with a healthy person that assumes they have many years ahead of them.

Enough of my maudlin talk, THUNDERBIRDS!!

"think he's really enjoying it as well"?......now there's an understatement.......

Well considering that you have several very nice basses that you could always choose, it says a lot about how good Greco's really are when you're playing one - IOW, massive cred.
