If possible push down on the pup to relieve a bit of pressure from the screw. Then while holding the pup down, completely unscrew the screw. Run the threads over a dry bar of soap and reinsert the screws in the pups. The soap will lubricate the screw and it should be much easier to crank down.

I take it that putting these on would require drilling holes for both the string post and small screws on the back??
As for the after market tuners, they are a direct drop in replacement on my 2017 Epiphone VP. At some I think the Epiphone put different tuners on the VP but not sure when that happened or what tuners they went with.

Exactly what I was thinking. There's a high likelihood this will work. Often the screw is simply stuck and the resistance of the pickup spring/foam is just a little too much.
If that doesn't work, send it to me and I'll be glad to work on it for you. As soon as I get it perfect I'll send it back.

One of my beefs with many (most?) bass reviews is they use more distortion than I've ever used or any bass player I've ever known uses. I suspect that most players might use a little breakup at times, but the vast majority run a pretty clean signal. I know when I was looking at VP reviews early on it was nearly impossible to find one that didn't sound like a buzz saw gone wrong. (I do like some distortion when done right, think Mel on Grand Funk's live albums which is sweet.)
I played one the other day. FYI It's got a wider neck. Didn't take much to get used to and sounded good.

Seriously, I was going to put SIT Power Steels on it but didn't have any. I wanted to get 'er done yesterday so I went to my local independant. Other than various Earnie Balls, all they had were Dunlap Marcus Miller stainless Super Brights. Man. Fresh out of the pack they made the Epi PUPs sound like Tbird +s on steroids. They'll mellow, but new strings are fun while they last!
As for the stuck screws, I"ll give it another go with my son pushing down on the pickup. If I can remove them, they'll get a little wax before reinstalling.
Yeah, it's like 1/8"(or ? cm). I think I could live with that.
Yeah, this guy actually made a lot of the points that we do, like don't EQ it like a Fender.
I liked the fact he would play the same lick with different settings. As said b4, I wanna hear the bass, not the player.

It is. I like him without the annoying guy who did the Epi/VP comparison with him. That one was hard to watch.

A lot of people like the Super Brights (said Captain Obvious). I've not tired them because bright and angry piano is not what I shoot for. I like presence definition, but beyond that if get nervous hearing things I don't care for way up on the high end.
You may have to remove the PU and find out how deep the hole is drilled (first), then drill a little deeper. (Capt. Obvious, again) Could be it just not deep enough. Shallow, like me.

Worse for me than distortion reviews, are guys who do a bunch of harmonics, tapping and play really high up the neck, where again the vast majority of people don't regularly play. Harmonics sound cool but I rarely do that and it's just for a subtle emphasis when I do.
I guess another one of my pet peeves about reviews is when somebody will review/compare an amp or strings and use some exotic bass that once again, virtually no one has. Extremely helpful--if you have the same $8,000 bass....
In such cases, just grab a precision bass since we all know what those sound like and do your comparison review that would actually make some helpful sense.
