DR Stainless Rounds .45.105 + Tortex .73 pick = One big angry piano
They keep their zing way better than Roto Sound.
Lo-Riders unless I need them ASAP then I go with Boomers. The local store doesn't carry the 105s in DRs.

I think I might have to give that a try.
I've never tried flats, on my short list

Haven't tried it, but I've always thought DR Black Beauties would do well on a bird.

I have those on the 1991. It has the angry piano sound down cold.I think you'll both be pleasantly surprised. Cobalt flats sound very much like rounds. Very growly.

They do very well in my opinion![]()
I just put Sadowsky flats on the 2015. Those do tame the 'Bird aggression quite a bit, but it is still there. It sounds like a muscular Precision with an attitude with the neck pickup only, or with just a touch of bridge. With both, it gets toward the angry piano sound, but muffled. They all sound different, so finding the right strings for each one has been a process. It's like raising children, only a whole lot faster, easier and cheaper. That's good to hear. Right now, I have DR Lo-Riders (my 'go-to' strings for years. Hi-Beams before that) on the Classic IV, and they sound great, but I've been thinking about putting Cobalts on all of my basses lately. I really like the feel of those strings and when I switch from playing my Jag w/ flats to the Bird or the Jazz, I'm really bothered by the finger noise of the roundwounds (after playing rounds exclusively for 30-odd years). I was just afraid that flats (even Cobalts) would tame the Bird too much for my liking. Right now it sounds like a scary monster.
I have them on my Roadstar II and in Blue(an ungothed goth, she's blu) and love the sound.EB Cobalt flats. I tried them on my Jaguar and they roar.
I still REALLY want an it's vintage Roadstar II. I'm completely infatuated with 80s Japanese made basses. They're just criminally underrated.
Endorsements......as if.
Gibson's Long Awaited Faithful Vintage Spec Range of TBirds- With intonation and fully chromed out in Shell Pink, Pelham Blue, Sonic Blue or Surf Green (don't care that some are Fender colours) TBII and TBIV in Reverse and Non Reverse Options, MXR, GK, Fender pure nickel rounds, Holden Monaro CV8 (Last Australian Muscle Coupe- out of production, though) and Carlton Dry (an Australian Beer I am particularly fond of, that is fortunately still in production)
If you like Guinness you really should make the effort to go to Ireland some day, the stuff is very different over there, very smooth is the only way I could describe it compared to what gets shipped. No endorsements for me; but I agree with your Wishlist except for the Carlton Cold. My default is Coopers Pale Ale, the green label. All natural so I claim it as a health food.
But I have been developing a liking for Guinness (draught)... yum.
(Oh, and I love those Monaros, if you ever go for one try to find pre-Pontiac ones, boot is much better. I think the CV8R is sweet looking too.)
Ireland is very much on my agenda. I'm hoping for 2017. Very proud of my Anglo Celtic (plus a bit of exotica) heritage. If you like Guinness you really should make the effort to go to Ireland some day, the stuff is very different over there, very smooth is the only way I could describe it compared to what gets shipped.
I like Carlsberg, from a bottle not a can if possible, add a good curry and I'm a happy bunny
