Cool - the Burny T-bird has string-thru ferrules. I did that on my Epi bodied Saunderbird.

It's Humbucker sized, I don't care if I have route a little bit.

I can personally confirm that the Wilde L90 4H humbucker is amazing for bass! And the price is fantastic too!

Sorry if that sounds overly enthusiastic, but I really am a big fan.

The tone is wide-band and very clear and articulate. If you're looking for a mid-focused tone, you'll want to look elsewhere.

Edit: buy one here: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

I like those pu's :bassist: - my SD bladed pu sounds great… wouldn't change anything now.., except the bridge (for Scotts' Badbird), which is awesome! :)

How about the bill lawerence eb50?

I had one in the bridge of my Gibson RD when I modded it. Great pickup!! I can't describe the sound anymore but I really liked it. I wired it so I could use the split coil option. My friend has them in one of his Hamers and he loves them as well. I would install one again if the rigth bass came along.

Sorry in advance if I get terminology wrong with this question.

I notice a lot of replacement bridges with a separate 'tail piece' pictured, and Warwick etc use them on all there basses. I'm assuming these have a function, apart from looking cool?

Is there one that would work with the Epiphone 3 point bridge? I confess I'm primarily interested in the 'looking cool' factor :) but it would be nice to know what's what with them.

I've decided the only way I'm ever going to get rid of my NR 'Bird GAS is to get a Cataldo NRBird. There's no price listed for this bass on the website - does this mean they're free to Thunderbird Club members?

Kat, there were Epiphone NRs for a few years according to the Epi wiki site. I've never seen one.

But they turned me off by being P/J.
Don't know if that bothers you though?

I'm not sure Scott's bridge will work on an Epi, you might PM him - I used one on my Greco and love it!

The Hipshot Supertone bridge is a well designed replacement. (as pictured on my Saunderbird above and Nocturnal's RD pic) It by-passes the crude height function of the original 3-point with individual saddle height adjustment capability. A much better design. You could mod your bass to accept the two part system - but it will be less than ideal using the antiquated Gibson design. (Warwick does it differently)

I don't have a source for a 3 screw cover, you can drill new holes in the pups - just don't nick the coils!

Xuron cutters make pretty short work of the job.........

This is a pick up from a Burny Thunderbird, they're all similar.

Oh the brutality!

I redrilled and used two Polished Nickel covers from Mike Lull.

The Gibson pups are epoxied into the plastic covers apparently, does the epoxy not stick that well to the covers and they peel off when cut?

With something as rare as an NR I could live with a bolt-on neck but the P/J config is a definite no no. Yeah, I know I could have the body filled and re-routed, but it would always feel like a compromise ... presuming I could find one.

Thanks for the replies. At this point I don't want to replace the bridge (cost more than the Goth) but was just wondering if a tailpiece would work with the stock setup. It seems not a good idea.

You are just interested in the tail piece, aren't you?
The tail piece will work with a 3 pointer, but I don't know if Scott does black ones (I think you have black hardware on your Bird).

Exactly...

Greco basses have a 3-point bridge and a tailpiece as far as I've seen - and they look great together. ;)

Yeah, just a tailpiece; and the Goth is a total blackout so nothing else would look right.

Thanks

Aha, I'll google some photos up and check them out.

Thanks

Wire it in series and crush all.

Here's my little tower of power...

The Blackbird will start making reggae gigs when I get some flats on it... way too much zing with the Rotosounds on there now.
What is the amp setup there? Looks like separate pre and power.

I actually really like the non-matching pickups.

Maybe on the Epi but I'm leaving the Gibson stock, I actually like the black hardware on it. I have thought about it after seeing the great job @bluenose made of his but I'm a little concerned about ripping off the plastic covers without damaging them, maybe if I could bet a spare set first I would give it a go.

The old Volks won't get the opportunity to get jealous, with my mum being the way she is it isn't getting used or looked after as much as she should be so it might be going up for sale which is a complete bummer as I really enjoy getting out in it as getting some peace and quiet
Could have one chrome, one black. Variety.

I just want something that sounds good, the bridge pup in the Gretsch just sucks. It'd be nice to have some grunt. My tbird doesn't have that problem

It's a Yamaha PB-1 into a QSC USA 850 poweramp. Fun/not fun detail- the QSC was pulled out from a house fire. The rear-panel graphics are singed off, and the front panel is burned black and bubbly where a plastic graphic applique is supposed to be. It's a tank though, works like you read about.
