Well went to pick up my two GK Neo 212iis this morning. They checked out- very pleased with them and the price.
Guy offered me a bass- 2006 Gibson LP Double Cut in Black Cherry. Needs a clean, strings and service but just far too good a deal. It came home with me.
Pics don't do the maple cap justice. I'll take some better ones when I clean it up.

That's great! I've only just heard of those in the last few weeks, but heading up in the desirability chart.

It does show how influential the Thunderbird was when it reappeared- in post vintage days- look how much we love these pickups.

Yes, undeniably T-bird's have a very characteristic sound/tone. I think most would agree here that it defines 'thee' Gibson bass tone.

I gotta get hired again and get caught up on some stuff. Might take you up on that once I'm back up and running.

I am past the first round interviews on four state jobs, and I expect to have a couple more first rounders coming. I'm on the list for further consideration and I'm waiting to hear when the face to face sit downs will happen. I expect that in the next week or two.

Best of fortune there man! Getting a reasonable job that pays a decent check is a great thing, makes the world a venue instead of a gauntlet.

Go get em. And yeah, buy my bass! Lol.

I've been using one of those with my summer weekend reggae band, and it does the gig nicely. I just got a second one, virtually both unused, from the same guy...

The Blackbird will start making reggae gigs when I get some flats on it... way too much zing with the Rotosounds on there now.

Many people play a relic guitar/bass, some even have a relic amp but buddy you're the first I've seen with even a relic'd coil cord! Looks like a wonderful setup, love the white bass.

Not sure if you've settled on a set of flats yet but I'd think the Cobalt flats would scream on a Bird if they aren't too bright for reggae and club dub dance music, if you want really deep dark thunderous lows I'd try La Bella Black tapes.

But he has got a mega strap and a self portrait on the bass!

How do you think Rotosound RS77 would sound on the bird? The strings on the new one are roundwounds but very very dark in tone compared to the 66s on the Epi and I'm liking it

Thanks for the good buzz! Yeah I really like that Bullet cable, got one in white too. The one in the photo has been repaired once, the straight-end plug broke after almost 10 years of hard use. They're nearly indestructible.

Ha, yeah the white mutant bass. An art-school student friend took it home and it came back with the artwork on it. It's actually an old Hamer Cruisebass.

I had Cobalts on the pro IV I sold a few months ago, liked them, probably would sound a good deal more aggressive on the Blackbird, just judging from the sound of the different pups in each. Those LaBella tapes sound interesting though, for reggae at least. Interesting.

I'm considering putting some matte-black lacquer on the fretboard of the 'Bird. Just to be deadly. Might be just gnarly with black tapeeounds.

I recently acquired my first Thunderbird, an Epi Thunderbird IV. I've always loved the aesthetics of TBirds, but never really expected to get around to acquiring one. That said, I've been gasing for a 12 string pretty badly, and had been lustfully keeping an eye on a Hamer 8 string TBird that had been listed on Reverb for the last year or so (and which sold recently). Then, I decided one day that a I should just build my own 12 string, and decided a Thunder12 made a lot of sense. A little research turned up L. L. Elwood's work on his 12 (Twelve) String Thunderbird, which provided the motivation I needed. Fortunately, I found this guy new for an incredible price:

I was going to get the hardware first, but I thought better of it. I decided I'd get the bass first, so I can enjoy it while I go about collecting the rest of what I'll need. And enjoy it, I have. I love the sounds I can get out of this, particularly with a pick. I'm looking forward to the project I have ahead of me, but it's nice not to be in a hurry.
