Ok, last non-T-Bird photo... @Sartori

With something as rare as an NR I could live with a bolt-on neck but the P/J config is a definite no no. Yeah, I know I could have the body filled and re-routed, but it would always feel like a compromise ... presuming I could find one.

I feel the same way. There are a million other ways to get a P/J.

I have two of the Epi NR's and they are great basses. I bought the first one so I could have a PJ bass without the 7ender look. Then I ended up buying a couple more because I liked them and found good deals on the hard to find green and blue finishes. The guy I bought the blue one from had originally bought it to mod with Thunderbucker pickups but ended up liking it so much the way it was that he left it stock. Aside from the body shape they are nothing like a real Non-Reverse but are cool for what they are. My Bach NR is a totally different animal to the Epi NR's. So if you want a NR that is more like a Gibson you will want to find a Bach, Gibson, or go custom which is where Carlo's beautiful work would be a great option.

It's a Yamaha PB-1 into a QSC USA 850 poweramp. Fun/not fun detail- the QSC was pulled out from a house fire. The rear-panel graphics are singed off, and the front panel is burned black and bubbly where a plastic graphic applique is supposed to be. It's a tank though, works like you read about.
LOL - some people will go to any length to get that authentic relic look!;)
I think it looks awesome:thumbsup: but the grills on the cabs need some rust and grime to fit in with the look of the rest of the rig (I'm actually serious here, it would look killer).
I saw a pic of an upright @JIO finished that gave a really cool weathered look to the finish. Something along those lines except in earth tones instead of blue would go great with the rest of the rig!

That is an interesting idea. Funny the relic look is simply "doing itself" at me, whov'e been more interested in having "presentable gear". This stuff was all simply available and cheap, so there it stands! In fact my grandfather and I built that rack box. It's been giged steady since '94...

I'll mull over that thought, I wonder how to do it so it looks cool and fun, but still like it came out of a New Orleans basement?

Then again, maybe that's the point!

@JIO could do some magic on those grills! Here's a pic of that upright he did...

Imagine your cab grills looking something like that but use blacks and earth tones in place of the blue finish. Would be way cool!

I'm thinking of maybe bringing them over to my local mechanic's and leaving them on the shop floor for a few days. Then I'll clean em up with some parts washer cleaner, screw them back onto their cabs.

That upright looks a little like the side of some large, ocean-going creature... pretty cool!

You know, you're not that far from Newport, RI. Just take the grills down to Eastons Beach (you can officially say your grills have been to Purgatory and back) tie a rope to them and throw em in the surf for a couple of hours. The tumbling action and abrasive sand combined with the salt water should do the trick. When you pull them out of the surf don't dry them off. Just place in a plastic trash bag for about a week and you should have some nicely aged grills.

I could do it at work during lunch- I work in Newport. I could go pick em up end of day, if I can secure them and not get them ripped off... which, in such circumstances, might not be a problem!

Or just nurse a six of Guinness while I wait. :)

Really is an intriguing idea. Might do it... ding em up just a little bit beforehand too.

That's the plan, for 2017 - all black or all white single pup NRBird.

There's something in me which chokes at the notion that to be 'taken seriously' as a 'real' bass player, one has to play a P and/or J. Anyway, even if that's true I'm more interested in musical outcomes than being 'taken seriously'. And besides all that, 'birds look like rock and roll.

It might be a long day, better take two sixes just in case!

I don't get that thought process either. It's more about what someone plays musically that matters to me than what gear they use.
