Thunderbird Club

View attachment 4315041 I am back from my travels and picked up the black one. There is a bit of corrosion on the clovers and a bit more on the pickup covers. There is one pretty good chip on the lower bout on the treble side. It looks like the bass hit something or something hit it. There are a couple minor scuffs on the headstock, probably from disciplining a singer, and cosmetic wear on the back and above the neck pickup that says it has been played. Other than those minor issues, it looks practically new. Whoever owned it had set it up reasonably well, but I still took about an hour to restring it, tweak the neck a little, clean everything and oil the fretboard, and adjust the intonation to get it close enough for me. It has new DR strings on it, but I took them out of the box a while ago and don't remember what they are. DOH. So, a picture from the basement of bad ideas with the usual green atmosphere. My pictures are worse than GC's pictures.

It is a 2017 with Wilkinson branded tuners. I don't remember if that makes it an early or late one. It is a little heavy, but not bad. It has a bit of neck dive, which I expected. The rest of the afternoon is for plugging it in to see what it really sounds like.
Congrats!!!

I got my Thunderbird back from it's pro set up yesterday and it was really worth doing, even if I only ever do it once.

He adjusted the nut, levelled and conditioned the frets, replaced the foam in the pickups, replaced the screws in the pickup covers, did the shielding in the pickups and back plate and adjusted the action. He also balanced the relief for a variety of tunings.

All this from me going in and him taking notes as I colourfully described how I play it and the noise I wanted to make with it

It’s sounding really punchy and grindy now :bassist:

Yeah. Those are supposedly fidgety to set up aren't they? Maybe not the best for a beginner. But then again, I watched a junior high school age girl trying basses with her Dad before the pandemic. The salesman kept trying to push her to a Squier. She liked an entry level Jacson. The Dad had the good sense to get her the one she liked. I hope she's still playing; she was really excited.
A terrible salesman. If the customer has made up their mind, just give it to them and take the money! Trying to change a customer's mind after a decision has been made is foolish - you will cement in the customer's mind (correctly) that you are an idiot and you may lose the sale.

A salesman's job is simple - find out what the customer wants and give it to them.

So a sales(person)is like a political person, but with a product, not just(MT)promises.

I'm seeing about $5 to $8 cheaper ($35 for Cobalts, $27 to $30 for Power Flats) at most sellers. Don't know what Jason sells them for. Might try them on something. Since I'm a hack, can always use help eliminating finger noise.
I like flats at home because rounds are too noisy (clack, buzz, finger noise). Playing with a band, I don’t hear any of that stuff.

Kind of depends on the bass, the SITs sound fantastic on my Studio Bird and and they're about equal to Smiths on the Greco. I like Smiths a bit better on my purple '76, no doubt because those pup produce a lot of Sub and the SITs have quite a bit more bass and lo-mid presence.
Sounds like the SITs might be good on brighter basses.

Are the TB+ considered bright?
I don’t know. I was thinking about this:
