Thunderbird Club

I married a lefty and it’s kind of amazing to see first hand the number of things we right handed folks use on a daily basis, and just take for granted, that are a real inconvenience or just not even available for lefties. That said, there is a reversed reverse (not the same as a non reverse) Greco out there with your name on it. The asking price is high but it’s very unique and rare and a step above even the mighty VP.
The struggle is real, my friend.

The Greco you mention would be cool, but between the really high asking prices lately and the added cost of converting it, it's not worth it to me. I have two Gibsons I'm very fond of.

My brother is a lefty (although he does a number of things right including guitar). So I can muster as much sympathy as one is able for a sibling...

*** To preserve the affordability of VP basses this portion of this message will self destruct in 24 hours ***
Great to hear your gettin on with the VP (even if you had to sleep with it). They are truly great basses and I seriously think every thunderbird owner should have at least one in their Tbird line up. I haven’t found a string yet that doesn’t sound great on them and I haven’t found a genre of music they don’t fit nicely in. It’s a beast compared to my modern Tbirds and polite compared to my Greco birds.
***** end of self destruct message *****

*** begin vicious anti Tbird rant in effort to suppress used VP prices ***
:laugh:Well it looks like you drank the Gibson/Epiphone koolaid. How anyone can be happy with a flimsy fragile neck diving one trick mud spewing excuse for a bass is beyond me. There’s a reason the Fender P bass is the go to bass for every bass player around the world. Enjoy your folly and remember that no Tbird bass or Tbird player has ever amounted to anything. ;)
*** end of misinformation campaign ***
I was getting concerned and aggravated at the sheer amount of fake news you were spewing at the beginning. Were it not for the disclaimer and the "Ministry of Truth" statement in the second part I might have lost it. Thanks for setting the record straight on these atrocious wannabe basses.;)

Epiphone won't let me.

I feel disenfranchised and discounted by the hegemony of right-handers. I don't play lefty, but have suffered near 6 decades of living in a right-handed world of oppression. The constant reminders that I'm different are everywhere as if to say I'm not good enough or even normal. I console myself with at least getting the steering wheel on the right (left) side of the car.

yeah, although I’m a southpaw I cut to the chase and play righty…

interesting you say that, I’ve met players who are lefties but play righty and some claim they feel handicapped with their dominant hand not doing the plucking…
I've tried a few lefty basses and it's not worth the effort to re-learn to play. I'm ambidextrous in virtually everything, but playing isn't one of them. Just feels odd and I'm even a worse player. I guess I want my dominate hand doing most of the work. I think it's the righthanders who are actually playing backwards. Start fretting with your dominate hand you sissies instead of making your left do most of the work!

Some may recall I tried lefty for a short spell during shoulder recovery.

I found it incredibly difficult. That may be due in part to not having started from the beginning. That is, when I started, I had to develop some "muscle memory' in both hands. Picking up left handed, you expect in short order to be at least playing, but really you are back to the sandbox class. All new muscle memory needs to be developed.

Perhaps had I stuck with it, and started at page 1 of the lesson book, I may have had more success. But patience is an issue then.

I'm actually somewhat ambidextrous, I can bat either way and after visiting Germany in 1970 I learned how to eat properly - knife in right hand, fork in left. But, it just doesn't work on the Thunderbirds.

No, this simply means I'm more talented than you.
