Thunderbird Club

Hey guys, I came back to the club - bought my short-scale Tbird back from the guy I had sold it to on Reverb! Lucked out on that and picked it up in person now that I live in the southwest, just a few hours away from where I had shipped it to - It's a bit chewed up from its original ownership with the punk band SNFU, but that's just raw mojo on this thing. I do plan to get a new truss nut for it (a bit rounded over) and maybe a professional neck tweaking as it's hard to get the relief just right myself, but it plays pretty dang good still, and sounds PHENOMENAL. I don't know that I've ever heard a VVT setup make such clear changes with such small knob tweaks (and all are musical, to boot).

Here she is as the centerpiece of my all-shorty gang.

Wow! Great story. Congratulations! The short scales are special; only 400 made. I think they sound different than other Thunderbirds with Tbird + pickups because of the set neck and the neck pickup being closer to the fretboard. Ballsier bottom end. I'll post a pic of mine tomorrow for Thunderbird Thursday. Yours is the star of the show today.

Thanks man. Didn't you pick up the one that was redone in silverburst? I was soooo jealous - that's what started the ball rolling for me to get mine back.

My friend who runs The Bass Channel on youtube has already tried to buy it off me twice. LOL.

An update.

I called the humane society. Splash did indeed have a family looking for him.

They picked him up on Monday. I am sure that Splash was excited to see his family again and I hope the family was relived to get him back.

But I confess to being a little disappointed. He is such a sweet little guy that I would have loved to have him join my family.

Just going say that you'll know good things for the kindness that you've done for the rest of your life. Very touching.

Yep. The Silverburst lives here now. It's a wonderful Thunderbird. I'm happy for you that yours came back to you.

Thanks. Admittedly, I don’t think I’ve heard the term “bee’s wing” before. What is it?
That iridescent cross grain wood that looks like a bunch of moving bee's wings in the wood. I have never heard the term used with any wood except really good mahogany.

Yeah, if you are going to lurk, the Traynor club is better. Nothing better than a Thunderbird through a YBA 100/200/300.

I’d love to try a YBA300 some time. I had a YBA200 that sounded nice at bedroom/quiet rehearsal volume, but with a loud band the low end was too mushy for my tastes. Coulda been that I was using a single 8 ohm cab a lot at the time.
A Mesa M6/M9 sounds so great with a ‘Bird and the newer class D Mesas don’t exactly suck either :)

Ever play a left-handed bass upside down?
I'm sure some bozo has done it at some point...

I was just thinking about that this morning. I glad he was reunited with those who love him but a little sad he didn't end up with you. Still very glad you saved his life. Have one on us!

Down here we don't use the fancy fruit jars with handles and lids, but thought they would come in handy while kayaking.
