Thunderbird Club

At little something that I found on my FB feed from the PNW Musical Archives....
For @Count Bassie a bit of Plan 9 stuff, Roger.

Vancouver band "The Painted Ship" at the North Vancouver club "Light Fantastic" in 1967. The Rhode Island band Plan 9 did a cover of The Painted Ship song Frustration on their first Voxx lp in 1981. Bill Hay ( singer of the Painted Ship) and myself went to the club Graceland in Vancouver 1988 to see Plan 9 and meet up with them. We had a nice chat while the opening band Soundgarden was playing.

How cool is that! Good story sis! That's long before I knew them, but I like that era. Their first record was actually called "Frustration", and was all psychedelic covers.
Thanks for sharing that.
I miss Eric, he was a smart cat, and a good dude to sit and have a conversation and a good laugh with.

(Eric and Deb told me that Soundgarden was pretty awful back then. I'm a fan, but everybody has to start!)

my dad had the musical inclination of a sandworm, my mom on the other hand was almost born an accomplished sight reader....phenomenal pianist, something that used to make my all-knowing dad VERY insecure....oh well...glad we (my brother, sister and me) listened to her for my brother is a film score composer in LA and my sister a Mezzo Soprano in the San Francisco opera. What's cool about mom is that although classically trained she loved Jazz and R&R, in fact she showed me the boogie woogie pentatonic bass pattern heard in most R&R....GO MA!!
Accomplished Bel Canto singer as well..... in the middle (Contadina in Corte)...Sicily early 50's...

Unfortunately, as much as I tried to steer my son towards music he prefers cars and bikes...oh well....working on my grandson now, once too often I hear "I wish I would have listened to my dad/mom and stuck with it"...

Mothers...I so miss mine.

My Dad played sax, clarinet, and flute(which got him a partial scholarship to Stetson University where he studied other things at which he was able to make a living )

So just guessing here, he studied hat making??

I did my graduate degree at the University of Western Ontario, known by the short form 'Western' to which I would always answer "Western? Isn't that an omelet?"

I know you're not on FB Will, but that PNW Archive is really cool, someone was posting about Led Zep's many visits to Seattle yesterday, I had no idea they'd played so many times between Vancouver, Seattle and Portland - 23 shows from '68-77!
They were here a lot, and I can't imagine why unless they just liked it here.

They played at Greenlake sometime or another. A friend was a kid growing up in that area and snuck in to the show. When the Greenlake stadium was shut down, he managed to snag one of the speakers from a tower somehow.

yeah I know that scenario too well....you couldn't laugh cause they'd get madder but sometimes it was impossible to hold a straight face.....one time our pug jumped on the table and ate some of the pecorino (cheese)....i thought my mom was going to explode in anger she got all red and puffy and yelled "look at that cheese, looks like a dog ate it!"....worst thing I could have said (and did) was "ma, a dog DID eat it"......she threw a wok at me...need I continue?...

The old photo from George and the walk down memory lane reminded me I took a pic of a pic when I was at my parents’ house on Saturday. About ‘79.

I agree. My lack of knowledge means I don't really know how bad I am and that I should not have that much enjoyment from playing that badly. As far as I know, I'm great!;)

OK, I'm on the low end if mediocrly marginal.

I'm kind of a no-talent hack:laugh:

I have lots of fun though!

I have a working knowledge of music theory at this point. Understanding how bad I am just makes it all more fun!

I revel in being a hack.
