Thunderbird Club

Someone was talking about hockey, so I can’t resist posting this pic from Saturday nights dive bar gig. We’re VERY interested in hockey during the summer down here in SW Florida.

The Stanley cup was making the rounds all weekend, bar hopping from place to place. Just happened to appear during our first set, along with Coach Cooper and one of the Asst Coaches. I had to run over and get a pic with my trusty Thunderbird. Go Bolts! Thunderbird and Lightning.

Very cool! I guess that was before somebody dropped it:
Stanley Cup returning to Montreal for repairs after being damaged in Tampa | Toronto Sun

Jeez.. No wonder. Those boys were getting pretty wild. I kinda felt sorry for the “Keeper”. He’d have his white gloves on.. with a look of grave concern on his face. Meanwhile, the players were hanging it overboard, or chucking it around.
That would be a stressful job for sure! Kinda ironic the cup needs to go to Montreal for repairs.

Right up until he starts to sing.... jeebus, that's bad. My ears will never get use to Geddy's voice.

Do you think Alex or Neil ever considered trying to get a vocalist to round out the band early on? :roflmao:
I was holdlding back saying it. You did it for me (and others I'm sure). He sings better than I do though, so there's that. They should release alternative versions with the vocals removed.

LOL - I made it about a minute and a half into the song before I had to pull the plug. Phenomenal instrumentals!
But that voice! Gads, just hammer an ice pick through each of my eardrums, it would feel better. I’d LMAO if someone played an isolated vocal track of this recording with no identification attached and asked a talent scout what they thought. Heck, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan sound like Opera singers compared to Geddy on this song (and most of his other songs).

To be clear, this is only slagging on Geddys vocals, his bass playing is beyond stellar.

Geddy and I are opposites. He can carry a tune well, but my voice sounds better. We're kind of tied on opening up a bass. My case latch skills are every bid as good as his. Mainly because he never had to do it the last 40 years.

I've often wondered how often early on Alex or Neil were thinking while playing, "He sure can play, but maybe we ought to consider...."
According to Neil, drumming is the hardest job. Singing is the worst job

For all the technowizardry they were later known for, they could seriously rock it at will.
Cool video, merci! Dig Geddy’s Ampeg/Sunn rig and Lifeson’s 330(?)…..always got me how Geddy sang melodies to rhythmically completely unrelated bass pattens….find his single finger (not always) plucking style curious as well…

All the Geddy bashing aside ( :rollno: ), been a busy couple of weeks. Last week was in the studio for 3 days at Boulevard Recording, previous the Producer's Workshop (where Steely Dan recorded a majority of Aja and Gaucho, as well as Pink Floyd did all the overdubs and mix/mastering for The Wall) working with one of the bands I'm playing in, Indigo Skyship. Then a gig Saturday with Dream Phases for a couple hundred people at a park in LA, and then last night played a smoking show with Hair. Going to be going into the studio to cut our 2nd album in September with Hair, so our live set is pretty much all new material. Anyhow, here are some photos from the studio. Ran the Sunn (switched to the Hiwatt for some stuff) into it's matching cab in an iso booth mic'd with a telefunken and NS10 speaker converted to a sub mic. Did probably half and half Thunderbird and Precision, and then they had a nice Rick in their too so threw that on a song too (a rarity, given I'm not overly fond of flats, but it sounded great).

I like the Hair music. I'll have to look up the other bands.

I have enough trouble walking and chewing gum. Singing and playing?

As for Geddy's one finger style, I was a one finger player for a long time. My teacher told me to use two and I resisted on the basis that Geddy only uses one. But I'm not Geddy; now I use two.

According to Phil(the "keeper"), the Cup gets some damage every year in post win celebrations.
