yeah, last maple fretboard I had was on a stolen 76 JBass that I absolutely adored about 15 years ago….have been very much craving one since…finally I just picked up a 2021 75 anniversary P because what caught my eye was the ash body and more importantly the 62 neck which is one solid piece of maple….what an incredibly beautiful instrument…love the bright snap of maple FBs…

It'll be 20 years next Spring. I saw this EB on eBay and went searching online to see what model it could be because I'd never seen one like that. I stumbled onto the Dudepit and the rest is history. Scott jumped in and answered my questions and we bonded over both Thunderbirds and Gene Simmons, among many other things.

I ended up missing out on this thing and being super disappointed, but a few years later (maybe 2004 or 5?) it popped up again and I was able to snag it then. Turned out to be a modded EB4. In the meantime, (through that site) I'd made friends with many awesome guys all over the U.S. and even internationally, and those ties continue today, with this thread feeling somewhat similar to what we had there.

I'm a big fan of one piece maple necks myself, I have 3 (ThunderP, CS '59 NOS P (now on the ThunderJ) and one on my JPJ), they add a sizzle and snap to the tone IMHO, and none of the 3 have a discernible dead spot.

Jumping off your post.... Wonder any have both CB and ProBuckers to compare? The CBs seem a worthy option.

I have Chinabuckers on 2 basses, both VVT and Sunbeam lights, one alder (TJ), one roasted mahogany (TP). I have 3 Embassy's with ProBuckers, and a Lull T5. Interestingly, the CBs have better growl and equal or better bottom end to the Lull or Probuckers. The mids may be a little weaker, but with my Spark set to mids, no problem. Engage the series switch and it's game over - mids equal to a P bass.

Are they VP pickups?
They are chrome and the link calls them Thunderbird lead & Thunderbird rhythm.

Thanks! That old neck feels like a very old friend. Slightly less wide than typical P necks, which is just fine with me.

When I first started playing I didn't like maple FBs and avoided them. But I love the three I have. This one plays and feels like a boutique bass.
