Thunderbird Club

well, it is new bass day!

I picked up the 1990 today. It is in very good shape, just a few minor scratches, but nothing much really. It sounds very good and even across all strings and the board, just as a bird should.. Maybe also a little more aggressive than I remember my 2012 sounding, so there seems to be a difference in the pickups. The frets are fine, neck is straight and truss-rod and electronics work just fine.

The only issue, or something that can be an issue, is that the bridge is almost laying flat on the body. This gives now a string height around 2,25 mm on E, which is ok for me, but could be that I must file the bridge saddles slightly for more adjustability.

Other than that it is very nice, and feels and plays just like I remember the 2012 did. Compared to my Orville, this is lighter, and also feels more delicate, if that is the right word to describe it.

I got it for, in my opinion, a very good price. Knocked of the cost of a Hipshot (if needed in the future, going to stick with the 3-point for the time being) and a set of new strings from the asking price.

Sorry, now pictures today, I now have to rush off for a 3 day business trip. Back home on Friday, so stay tuned for pics.:bassist:
Congrats! IMO, nothing plays and feels as good as a Gibson Thunderbird.

The neck pitch is shallow, with a proper set up you should be able to lower the action should you want to, the bridge on my '89 sits just a little off the body, the bridge saddles may also be reversed if needed.

Thunderbird and furry tugboat.

Note the angle of the three point, the front is lower.

And over the last 2 years has designed only 3 new models. They maintain it was a good trade.

Nah. Just yesterday during lunch break they introduced:
  • Donny Osmond's 7th Rhythm Guitar Player model in Youthful Blush
  • Donny Osmond's 7th Rhythm Guitar Player model in Teen Envy Green
  • Donny Osmond's 7th Rhythm Guitar Player model in Adolescent Lust Red
  • Donny Osmond's 7th Rhythm Guitar Player model in Blue Balllz
  • Donny Osmond's 7th rhythm Rhythm Guitar Player in Big Smile White
  • Robert Cray Don't Play model in Brownburst
  • Robert Cray Don't Play model in Blackburst
  • Robert Cray Don't Play model in Burnt Sienna Burst
  • Robert Cray Don't Play model in Tobaccoburst
The DO7RGP models include Extreme Chrome hardware, Schallow tuners, Whitebreak pickups, and feature a drilled out body and hollow head for making light music.
The RCDP model specs will be released as soon as Gibson convinces Cray to endorse Les Pauls instead of Strats. Rumors from Gibson are that execs are giddy since negotiations were upgraded last weekend from "Stop bothering me!" to "When Hell freezes over". According to the VP of Les Paul New Second Tier Endorsement Marketing, "Since the latter happened in Texas this past February, we feel we're golden at this point."

:roflmao: So many interesting options to choose from. I can't wait!

I had my heart set on the Paris Hilton Paisley Semi Shallow 335 making it out this year. Maybe next time.
