Thunderbird Club

Not to worry. These things are going to be flooding the market used once the original owners figure out these things are awful..... The trick is to not brag about any that post pics or sound clips. That gigantic neck, the input being in the wrong place (whichever place it's in) and the knobs line up--or don't, etc. Tried and true neck dive thing to throw out as well. Even rag on the shabby case. "Brown? Who does that?" If we can just plant a couple seeds of doubt we just might luck into one! ;)

I am actually hoping a non-Thunderbird player will be enamored with the looks and buy it and not really be for them (since it doesn't sound like a Pbass or a Jbass), and they start hitting the market lightly used. That is not gonna happen with anybody in this thread as they know a great thing when they see/hear one. But somewhere out there there are some impulse buyers who just have to buy since they've been stimulated a couple times, but for some reason it won't work for them. I am banking on their bad calculation.
A 7ender player was how I got a '15 lightly used. He didn't understand it and sold it for what would now be really cheap. GC had a blowout sale of them shortly after that and was selling them for $999 or something like that for a bit. We will never see a price like that again!

With any luck, that's going to happen with these new NRs. The difference is that I'm one of the few freaks around here who doesn't have any GAS for a NR at all.

I'm taking a bit of this from LBO where there is thread about what music any of us happens to be listening to at the time......
Way back in the day I got to see Pat Benatar and Billy Squier together on the same bill, probably one of the very best shows I ever went to, both were up and coming rising stars. I remember what monstrous, great rhythm section Billy had at the time, drummer Bobby Chouinard and bassist Kenny Aaronson they were fantastic together....here's some shots and video......

Here I would FF into about 1:45 and go..........Aaronson is tearing it up on this, doesn't matter what bass he's playing.

Great stuff here too what a showman, no standing in the shadows!

This may be true to some extent. I'm predicting a hit. Especially after the guys at Anderton's post a vid. But you'll probably only save on sales tax. Plus shipping is so high now. I don't see any advantage to waiting for a used one unless it's a local only sale.
…Plus recall what Eppi did with the VP - initial price was great, but once sales started climbing they bumped the price up by $100 and cut a bit of cost on hardware. And now the used ones really aren’t that much cheaper than the original ones were new. I’d have to double check, but I think I paid $650 new for my VP from Sweetwater, I could probably get close to $600 for it used now.

Considering the cost of a regular new Gibby Tbird was up around $2000 a couple of years ago, I’d consider $1800 for a new NR to be a pretty good deal in these inflationary years. I doubt the NR will drop much below $1500 used anytime soon. Heck, a used 2013 NR model is currently running north of $1500.

Try and get much off $2299 on a new Gibson reverse these days.

Pile on why don't you? :D

I know I should just buy a new one. But it's going to have to wait and you people aren't helping one bit with all the pics and logic.:D

I have never played one. May not even like the feel. But a bigger neck is not a problem for me. I love the smaller necks, but also love my '55 Pbass neck. Ain't nothin' like a Thunderbird neck. If something sounds great, I can likely learn to love it or overlook it.

Also fantastic guitar playing by Neil Giraldo with Pat. He got into BC Riches from playing with Rick Derringer.

Ok, I give up - I hear the bass line but don’t see a bass player on stage, is Steppenwolf one of those Doors type bands where the keyboard player does double duty?
Like The Doors, Steppenwolf was a 4 piece group. John Kay didn't always play guitar in live performances. My guess is there's a bass player behind the amp wall. The organist would've had to be sitting to do pedals and his left hand was doing other things. In the credits, one guy is listed as guitar, bass, vocals. That's the people on the recordings.

For being the head honcho and creator of this Thunderbird thread I really appreciate and dig how open minded and bass agnostic you are…..thank you..

That’s what had me baffled, I couldn’t see any bass pedals under the keys and the key players hands weren’t in the right locations to be playing the bass lines. For a very brief second near the end of the song I thought I saw the flash of a bass headstock way back in the shadows behind the keyboard player, but certainly didn’t see a bass anywhere else in the clip. Great song though, and great bass line.
