I agree Tanner--$20 sounds like nothing considering. Still, $50 sounds like a better starting point for a very minor flaw. This flaw is a $300 flaw in my book. Maybe more. No thanks. You make a good call on passing. Much more off and it would be a different matter.

I know. Just banging it against another bass hanging (or the like) wouldn't do that. That's a significant whack or over tightening.

Yes, that's what I'm thinking as well. I could get another MXR, which I love, but this TC Electronics sounds interesting--and is reasonable in price if it doesn't sound as hoped. From what I've read it's pretty similar to the Small Stone.

I tried one of those. It is very subtle if you are playing clean. However, after a bit of dirt it sounds good. Passed it to my brother - it sounds much better on guitar. For modulation I really like:

I love mine. It sounds great, and from everything I've read, it's more faithful to the original Phase 90 than the current MXRs. Michael Laiacona, who started Whirlwind, is one of the original MXR guys.

Reverse engineering an analog circuit is legal. As long as the circuit is no longer protected by patent(s), making a copy is fair game. Unfortunately the new digital pedals run code which is protected by copyright. Copyright protections last much longer than patents.
