I built this Nonreverse Thunderbird body while in college 38 years ago, it's what in part got me booted out. The body is mahogany with a 1/4" maple top ala Les Paul. Over the years in storage it developed a cup, this past summer I have been working on getting the cup out and have had good results. I finally started laying out neck, pickup, control cavity routes and bridge location, in the next few weeks I'll start routing. Well congratulations on your retirement. I wish I could join you in the ranks of the leisure class. Funny thing, we put in an offer on a retirement place on Saturday. If it's accepted, I won't be adding any more basses for awhile. Glad I got the NR coming, made it just under the wire.

I did build a reverse first ! This is bass number one also built at the same school in '81

I’ve been wondering about those pickups. Gibson told me ceramic, then when I received the bass I thought hmm, these sound awfully different (better) than my prior experience with ceramics.

So I’m much inclined to agree with your assessment of them being Alnico. I don’t know how to verify, but at this point, I’m happy with whatever they are.

I had forgotten also, until I recently got my 200S back from repair. Been mothballed for 15 years, man I missed that sound. I have owned it since '83.
I don't have the Sunn speaker cab, only had a 15in PA speaker for 20+ years until it went south and I needed space in my home studio. The PA speaker was too big and heavy to keep movin about anyway.

Here is my current rig of choice, won't be playing outdoors so don't need 2 15s, just the Rumble 12in for bass, HB 12in for guitar, Two notes Torpedo for silent recording:

Bought the Rumble 100 in 2018 for the studio and loved the weight and sound. Decided to mod it to use the 12in speaker for the Sunn, not knowing how it would sound. Turned it up to 5 and could feel the basement floor vibrating, massive Thunder and Rumble goin on. Any higher and I may have to tear up some carpet to repair the concrete.

yeah, these days the SVT/fridge stays home and only gets used for practice or backyard parties…
in your case (where the wattage is the same) i would be tempted to use the 200s more often….in my case where my MarkBass rig puts out 800 Watts (vs 300 of the SVT) it’s a no brainer…
