Case in point that as long as the specific type of pu/electronics are positioned in the same location (as on a classic _______ bass) - it will sound like that bass. :bassist:

Burst hides flaws that Burgundy Mist Metallic just doesn't. That's fine. 20 years from now, it will have more bumps and bruises and wear. It gets played a lot. It competes with the pixie dust 2001 for my favorite bass guitar.

earned bumps and bruises are always better than sunburst.

I like the mildly offbeat colors.

Interesting story, bought it from the Low End, it had Aero P PUPs, and originally belonged to Bon Jovi's bassist who used it on at least one World Tour. It did sound great but was about 9.8 lbs. I liked it well enough to invest more $ to lighten it, so it went to OEM Benevente for weight reduction by lighter tuners and a light as possible new body. I found out where he got his body blanks and asked that some light, but resonant blanks be included in his next visit. Benevente fell for a particular piece of Black Limba. While the tone was to die for, it didn't save much weight. I traded it and a very nice Lakland 55-94 for a mint vintage NYC Sadowsky Jazz 5. The Sadowsky was light and comfortable but bland sounding. Both basses I traded sounded better than the Sadowsky, and I sold it at a big loss. Wish I had a do-over!

Amazing how stuff like this unfolds. There’s a lot to be said about hindsight being 20-20.
Interesting comment on the Sadowsky. I really tried to like the Sadowsky basses for a while about ten years ago but after running through about three of them I gave up. Workmanship was top notch and all the parts were high quality but for some reason I couldn’t get any of them to sound noticeably better than my Fender or even Squier Jazz basses. I gave up and turned to Alembic, never looked back.
