It was kind of sticky but provided no barrier from the metal box from circuit board. And there are a couple joints that stick up and just about touch the back/bottom of the box. I've cleaned out as much of the old foam as possible and put some electrical tape over the two joints that stick up. I'm going to find some foam or other packing type of material like foam to but over the circuit board. Will most any kind of foam material work or would some plastics create static and cause a short or other problem?

I doubt any of this will work, but thought it's worth a try later today.

what are the symptoms Donnie? Mfr and model please?

It's a MRX Phase (Block letters) 90, and was made by MXR nor Dunlop I believe. I bought it used in the early 80s. No sound at all now Chuck. For a few weeks out of the blue it would pop loudly through the cab after being engaged and I would click it back off, just thinking it was something with a cable or power supply. I brought it home to see if it happened there too. Nothing at all now. AC or DC makes no difference. I thought some solders now covered by the e-tape may have been touching the metal box from the foam being shot, but I don't think that's the case now. Possibly something got cooked. I can't complain really it served me well since the very early 80s. We all gotta go at some point!

If this is what you really like and this one can't be fixed, why not just look for a used one from that era?

It is wonderful. I don't have a Firebird, but would like to have one someday. Not that I can play guitar worth a hill of beans.
