Thunderbird Club

Interesting Scott, I really much prefer the new Gibson pickups to the Epi, I think our choices in amplification have a lot to do with this. To me the 760's lack in bass and lo mids. I you decide to let your Gibson pickups go let me know, I'd even trade you for the 760's in my Epi.
My rehearsal setup is a 100w Hiwatt and a Marshall 4×10, all my other basses sound great through it, that unfortunately leaves the new NR suspect, particularly the pickups.

Mine is a GK 700RB II with an SWR 6x10, I'm happy with every bass except the VP and the EY Guitars equipped Orville.... Honesty, the others are head and shoulders better than these two in terms of tone, the Lulls, Greco and all the Gibsons...

Lol we are definitely at different ends of the spectrum, no right answer obviously. The new Gibson NR pickups reminded me of Seymour Duncan custom shop units I have, rather docile and sterile to my ears.

My experience all along has been that the VP doesn't have as much thunder as I expected, although it definitely cuts through the mix. The CP has thunder in spades, but has a lot less of the higher freqs.

That's the ceramic magnet TB plus pickups that I so famously despise. I've literally had dozens of basses with these pickups and not one has worked for me.

Let me know if you'd like to trade the pups, I'm totally serious.

I respectfully disagree that it's "pretty cool". It's one of the coolest. Maybe even THE coolest.

There's a B29 coming nearby soon (or maybe it was already here). I got excited when they said you could go up in it, until I found out it was several thousand dollars. I get, they're expensive to maintain and fly, but I don't want to go up a vintage Thunderbird's worth. Well, I do, but can't justify it.
The plane with cool factor of that era for me was the P-38. Shoot, it still looks cool even by modern standards.

Well, you could get rid of the rig.:bag: Never mind that's a really bad idea.:D

Glad you shared your take. I haven't played a new NR, but sounds like we have the same tastes in PUs, though we don't shoot for the exact same tone out of them. I'm super impressed with the 760s, considering they are likely not expensive PUs. Gibson should be using them.

If Scott decides to toss out the rig, I'll be happy to come haul it off free of charge, nice guy that I am.

My favorite as well! Followed closely by the Mustang, the Thunderbolt and the Corsair.
Coolest but too late and not used. The Wing!
