Thunderbird Club

WC coffee at 2am in the morning is the best on the planet, bar none. If you’ve ever seen a WC “beef” patty you’d know they are about 1.5” square maybe a 1/4” thick and have a half dozen holes punched through them. The standing joke was - they used them as coffee filters.

My funny WC story - when I first moved from CA to the Cincinnati area in 1980 I stopped in at a WC for a quick bite. Looked at the menu on the wall and thought - awesome, a burger for 25 cents! So I ordered one. The girl behind the counter looked puzzled and asked if I wanted one bag, I said no, just one burger. Needless to say, I was a bit underwhelmed with what I got.

For the longest time I thought I’d go down under if I ever left the US. Then the wowzers hit. Now it’s looking like Ireland if that day ever comes. Scotland is beautiful to visit, been there many times but it never seemed to have that air of independence that Ireland has. Norway sounds interesting but I haven’t spent enough time there to get a feel for what it would be like to live there. Spent a lot of time in Japan, vibrant cities, beautiful countryside, friendly people, always felt welcome as a visitor but not so sure that would be the same as a transplant.
Scotland is working on it. One day. Saor Alba!

 I bet you weren't the first or only one who's done that. As you now know, having more would not have enhanced the experience. You are correct, the coffee is good.

I had kind of an opposite experience with Wendy's. As a kid I was used to eating a Bid Mac, so when Wendy's came to town I ordered a double, thinking it was their version of the BMac. Needless to say I thought I was going to puke after eating that and frys....

I love a bag of Dick's :D

There's one about a mile from the house.
Surely eBay or Reverb would be the place for that...

and ahem.

I love to visit Japan, however, I would clash with the corporate culture. I'm an entrepreneur, not a cog in a big machine.
Very true. The culture there is all about conformity and steeped in centuries upon centuries of culture and traditions. Not having been raised there and not understanding every nuance of their culture I’m sure that as hard as I might try, I’d eventually offend traditionalists, and in that culture there aren’t many second chances.

Case in point - on one of my business trips I was invited to stay at the home of one of my Japanese employees. This apparently is quite an honor and rarely offered in a business setting, to decline would have been an insult. I accepted the offer. Trying to be a thankful and respectful guest I decided to bring a large bouquet of flowers to the house (as is relatively common there, his mother in law lived with them so I thought she’d really appreciate the gift). As I was at the florist buying the flowers I happened to mention what they were for. The florist was horrified and said you can’t do that. Apparently cut flowers in that culture convey the message to the recipient that you are ending your affiliation with that individual and paying last respects. Would have been a disaster. Instead I purchased a live plant and it was very well received and appreciated. Who’d a thunk?

i don’t get it

You're just yankin' my chain right, since you already posted a few words from the Three Dog Night Song? (After a member said they had never been to Spain.) I, not seeing your post yet then posted a verse from the song (written by Hoyt Axton, which I didn't know).

In Oklahoma, not Arizona
What does it matter?
What does it matter?

Please say it wasn't a cactus. :D

I actually think many of them are very pretty in their own way. I love the design that went into a plant that needs protection being basically a reservoir of life giving water. Nothing says don't even think of eating me like strategically placed needles.

As a teenager, I could eat two Wendy's triples an order of fries and then a whole large pizza with all the toppings. Beats me where it went. I also couldn't sit still very long. It may be related.

Never been to a White Castle. They weren't in S. FL. Only able to compare the frozen ones available at the grocery-unfavorably. At RC they were made to order on a flattop.
White Castle has in the past 6 months opened the largest WC in the world in Orlando. I tried to stop by. Wait was over an hour. Nope. Didn't have time to hang around as I was on my way to do this.

The largest WC in the world ?
That’s some dunny.

I left California some 16 years ago, I wouldn't go back.

I have often thought of Ireland or Spain for relocation. SE Asia is inviting too, maybe South Korea or Indonesia...
A colleague just retired back to Dublin after about 30 years here. His second wife is the girl he was engaged to prior to his emigration to Sydney all those years ago. Met again when he was back for a family visit. They are renovating a house in his old village, and the family have a holiday house in Spain.
That sounds the way to do it.

We have Dick's Drive-In. I think there are about six of them, total. Their fries are fantastic when they are hot and fresh, but they are awful when they start to cool. A Dick's Special is the best cheap and nasty hamburger you can get. In-N-Out just doesn't compare. All these burger joints come from the era when Thunderbirds were first designed, so there's that.
So a Dick’s Special is kinda related to an in-n-out?
