Thunderbird Club

Speaking of the Oilers, McDavid and the boys are home tonight against Winnipeg. They have a score to settle from last years play offs and another loss to them just the other night! One thing lucky about being my age(49) is I got to watch the dynasty years here in Edmonton. I hope this is the beginning of another run of years where the team is at the top or at least near the top. @GonePlaid I’m a huge hockey guy. Still play rec and am a fan of some great players that play(ed) for your TB Lightning! I’m small so St.Louis was always a fav(except when he played for Calgary) and Stamkos.
I “go for” the Oilers in a very limited way from Australia, in solidarity with my cousin Pete who is a supporter from the glory days. They moved to Canada way back in the late 50s, so he is a bit older than me and retired. He must be 70 or close to it. Very fit still last I saw him. Lives just outside of Edmonton (St something) and loves the hockey. But been very disappointed over the last decade or so.

St. Albert? There’s a few St twins and cities around, but that’s the biggest one that’s a suburb of Edmonton. Yes, it’s been a while since they really had a chance to be a contender. The moves they made over the summer put them on the right track, for sure. It’s exciting again! I’m glad to know there’s an Oilers fan over there!!! Someday we’ll get to Australia. We have high school friends that moved there (Sydney) almost 20 years ago. I have to see it there.

Without looking it up, yep St Albert sounds right.
My other cousin lives outside Whitehorse ?
most of their kids and grandkids live in Vancouver or in BC somewhere. Pete’s daughter and family are still in Alberta somewhere I think.

So I know they're different animals, but how do you find the old vs. new Peaveys?

Yes, they're quite different. The name & speaker size is about all that's the same.
Well, and power - with the 8-ohm speaker I got, the Mark IV is allegedly putting out about the same as the Max 250 does with no add-on cab.

The Mark IV: it takes a bit more boost to the bottom end to where I want it, but easier to bring down the highs. If that makes sense.

The Max 250: super easy to get the bottom end up, even without the Kosmos-C. Also easy to make too boom-y. But I've found it difficult to get rid of a high-end "twang", especially on the G-string.

A few minutes of fiddling with knobs & switches & such that I don't understand fully, yet, on the Mark IV, and no twang, no boom, sounds great

you just need a disguise. Lobster has been done. Zorro mask maybe?

And a voice modulator & dark lighting? ;) Something like what they used to do on news shows, when they didn't want to reveal who the "witness" was?

Still Thursday, raining again......
We're off to Jules Maes Saloon near Boeing Field for some drinks, food and bad karaoke.
Oldest bar in Seattle and we are extremely happy to become part of its history (julesmaessaloon.com)

Quick shot before getting packed for tomorrow. I played my first show with the new band on Sunday here in NYC and tomorrow we're playing in Boston. All going great. Interesting comment after Sunday's show.

Your skill on bass, particularly with so vast and ungainly an instrument as the Gibson, was praised in public.

I need to stop telling people how light and comfortable Thunderbirds are and just let them think I'm a better player than I am!

Whirlwind?
My favorite cable from the same time, but no not Whirlwind. Bill Lawrence. They were not expensive and if there was a short, just cut it and stick the end back on and screw it back and you were good to go. This one has lasted over 30 years. No telling how many current name band cables I've gone through and this thing kicks their butt and keeps going.

Glad it went well Ken! And that you figured out how to tame that unruly mahogany beast.

If someone looked at how I had the 2nd channel EQ set they would shake their head. But the way I had it blended with the #1 it sounded big, thick and punchy, yet with clarity. Great heads!

Cragars are boring... I plan to switch to the stock hubcaps and steel wheels next tire change

-UNLESS- I find a set of American Racing... I don't think the slots would look right on this car.

Those are what I want on the Camaro one day. Getting it running is a higher priority.

Peavey amps like yours are as close to ACC amps as there is. Huge capacitors and transformers seem to make a big difference. Chucky can say if that makes sense or if there is some other magic. For now, it is my story and I am sticking to it. They compliment the tonal pallete of Thunderbirds very well.

My first car was a white '69 Ford Falcon 4 door - it was also destroyed in my first car accident (not my fault!) so, yeah I got that goin' for me.
My first car was an 80cc Yamaha motorcycle. Two stroke. By the time I sold it, the piston rings were non-existent. It barely ran at all.

Marty was great. Yzerman screwed him over for the Olympics. Detroit can have Stevey Y.

Gladly! So many great memories at the now razed Joe Louis Arena. Of course success for the Red Wings didn't happen until we got our Russian 5 but Stevie Y is still THE MAN here in Detroit!

He was a great player and did some good things for TBL, but his 'hosing' of Marty St. Louis left a bad taste in Tampa after his departure. I can't help noticing the "dead" Wings haven't looked too good for a while.
On another note, our band had a big gig booked for nearly a year for this weekend: Big annual Finnish Gala. 86'ed due to travel restrictions in place for international travelers. So this won't be getting played this weekend.

Looks good! Another thing you could do is route a big control cavity from the back.
