Thunderbird Club

Thx. The bass is currently strung with Chrome flats. I gotta say I’m not to fond of them on this bass. Overly bright, no thump and a shy bottom end. I’ll probably replace them with a round. I like Boomers, but already have them on one bird, looking for a deep dark round in that territory.
A few darker round options might be Round Core Boomers (I like these--I don't think I have an set not on anything or I would send you a used set). GHS Balanced Nickles or Fender Pure Nickles are both nice as well. TI Jazz Rounds are dark for rounds, but not dull sounding. But they are an expensive experiment! Have you tried GHS Pressurewounds? Very unique string. Full bodied and no string noise, but again aren't lifeless either. Great bottom and mids from the Alloy 52 as well. They are the only strings I use on a couple of basses. They are smooth and are nothing like ground wounds (D'A's half wounds, etc.).

That brings us to an interesting Thunderbird Thursday Club question…

Who in the club here currently owns a bass that was previously owned or has been played by another member of this club?

I have one, my BaCH (black NR II in the pic a couple of posts ago) originally belonged to @godofthunder59 many years ago. I think I even have a stage photo with Scott playing it. As far as I know, all my other birds are from outside the club.
0 - From other members. (The '06 is from the classifieds, but he wasn't a member here as far as I know.)
0 - Sold to other members.

I think most of the faithful here buy them and rarely sell them. Which seems like a reasonable approach to life.

I can sure think of many member's basses I would like to buy! That one guy (and we all know who he is), won't let go of anything Pelham Blue, so those aren't even a remote possibility. ;):D

I have boomers already (probably the hex core) so I’ll pass on that one but the GHS Pressurewounds sound like an interesting choice. They’d be a slight diversion from the nickel rounds, cobalt flats, TI flats, LB Black tapes, Gold rounds and Fender rounds I have on my other birds.

About the only other directions I could go would be Stainless, but I’m not aware of any warm sounding stainless strings, or an Alembic elliptical wound string (on a steel hex core), it supposedly has reduced finger and fret noise but retains much of the round wound feel and sound.

What you have are likely hex cores. Round Cores are writ large on those packages. They do noticeably sound different. Warmer, softer and not as aggressive as regular Boomers. You know you could try SIT Power Steels. They are "warm" for a SS string, but still sound like SS, with some time on them. There are some nickle plated Rotos. I have a set I'm going to try but haven't decided where yet. I also just bought a set of Roto Ultramags last night that are made of alloy 52, the same as the GHS Pressurewounds and their Progressives (which you can't get). The GHS version is warmer than SS but still has more presence than NPS. Really nice mids which the alloy 52 seems to provide. So there is a round version of the Pressurewounds if you wanted rounds. Infeld Superalloy's are really nice as well and again have alloy 52, but they ain't cheap, but do last forever.

But the GHS Pressurewounds are unique. A compromise that actually works. They have more of a round wound sound, but feel more like flats.

I found the Fodera stainless steel strings too warm for my taste. You might like them.

The Flamingo and the '15 were owned by others on TB before I got them, but I don't know if they were members of this club. The Flamingo was burst when I got it, so it's hardly traceable by being Burgundy Mist Metallic.

West coast Thunderbird Thursday.....

Don't ask what's going on here.......:roflmao:

The Epi Silverburst that came from @gaffster and the Gibson Short Scale from @Kriegs. Pretty sure both of them have numbers. The ‘13 PB NR came from @Dasgre0g. I’m not sure if he ever got a number. Great guys all who sent three marvelous Thunderbirds this way. I haven’t heard from them in awhile; I pray they’re all ok.

I snagged the Epi PB IV and the Epi VP off Reverb. The Goth was NOS from my local Independant. The ‘15 was new from GC and the ‘21 NR was new from SW.

So happy TT from the west coast!
