That is a lot if knobs and switches for one bass…
When you’re playing it by itself, the various tones don’t seem useful. One setting sounds the best. When it’s in a band mix, being able to shift the resonant peak let’s you find the sweet spot where you can hear the bass.

I wanted one of those soooo bad when they came out…..went through an FSO hate period MANY moons ago (sunbursts and tort too)….just preferred more symmetrical designs….these were on my wishlist too….so cool..

I still like the symmetrical body shapes. I've got a design cut out with similar, just need to get it to the shop.
Matter of fact, it looks a lot like that S.D Curlee.
 
same here, that said, redeveloped an appreciation for how longer (all tuners on one side) necks look….

Sometimes harder to reach, but at least they all turn the same direction. When I play any of the other 3(2 2x2,1 3x2) I invariably turn at least one the wrong way.

I have long arms so the reach isn't a problem, but if there's one on the "wrong" side I'll turn it the right but wrong way. Never got used to them on that side. I'm sure if that was all you played you'd get use to it.
