Thunderbird Club

I suppose it’s what one is used to. I don’t own any basses with VBT. It probably is easier.

This is easier than both vvt & vbt :D

All this talk about knobs reminded me. I stumbled across these last night.

I love custom neck plates.

That brings us to an interesting Thunderbird Thursday Club question…

Who in the club here currently owns a bass that was previously owned or has been played by another member of this club?

I have one, my BaCH (black NR II in the pic a couple of posts ago) originally belonged to @godofthunder59 many years ago. I think I even have a stage photo with Scott playing it. As far as I know, all my other birds are from outside the club.

I believe LarryV has sold a Bird to at least one member on here.

I have basses with about every pot/knob combination possible. VT, VVT, VTVT VT w/3-way switch, VTVT w/3-way switch, VT w/organ on-off (pu) rockers, stacked VT/VT, VTB w/pu switch, series/parallel switch, and passive/active/boost switch (G&L L2000) and a couple other active bass harnesses with mid-sweep, piezo blend etc. I don't own one bass with no pots/knobs, or with only a V pot. I like on-board controls and implement them when needed. Regardless of what combination, I don't fuss with them - I find the tone for the application (per song) and leave it there. Same with the amp - once set I don't touch it. Especially the volume - after the rooms volume level is determined (at the sound-check) my bass response becomes the bands standard. Once into the set or rehearsal, if I can't hear my bass then everyone turns down. Needless to say my bass response sits right behind the lead vocals which are always the loudest and clearest part of our performances. We get a bit louder on instrumentals but usually only in as far as dynamics are concerned. Of course a sparcely attended room (at sound check) compared to a full house during a set will necessitate a bit of adjustment as needed. (usually a bit of volume)

That’s nice! There was a Vantage copy of that SD Curlee bass. The ones I’ve seen look very similar to my Aria Pro 2 SB600, probably from the same shop.

My first bass was a Vantage shaped like that. It was and absolutely awful boat anchor. I learned a whole lot from that bass and didn't know any different at the time. Then the Freebass turned up, and I started to find out what a bass should actually be like. And then I got rid of the Vantage. I don't miss it a bit and have no interest in ever seeing another one.

Maybe they weren’t that great. I just remember seeing them and they the same headstock as the Aria Pro2. I had a Vantage Flying V for a few months in the 80’s before a guy traded me the brand new SB600 for it. I definitely got the better end of that deal:laugh:
