Thunderbird Club

So who is your TCT[1]? Wandering youtube for my work soundtrack, there were a number of great bass players showing up, but whenever I specifically wanted something, it always ended up being the same band with the same bass player. No surprise to at least one of us here, my BCT this week is Nikki, and specifically this song.

1. Thunderbirdist Crush Thursday

I can only dream of what Mel would have sounded like with a Thunderbird....
Clips like this make clear why Led Zep didn't want them opening for them and gave GFR the boot.

:)

The place they are playing in Phoenix is not very big. It used to be the Mason Jar*** and holds a couple hundred people maybe. You should come see them here. Free place to stay if you do.

***I have played there several times but have seen a TON of fun shows there.

I've had some of that angel power that made things glow. Oh, you were talking about something else, never mind.

Spector Bird arrived today. The finish is pretty cool In the top picture, it looked grey when I took the picture. Camera picked up the colors tho. Glad to have one of these back in the collection!

Fantastic! Happy you snagged one. It just looks great. They look so stinkin' good they're worth having no matter what they sound like.

They sound identical to me. Am I right or have I played my music too loud for too long?

The Tele had a slightly fatter bottom, making the rocking world go round a bit more. That wasn’t what I wanted to hear, but IO wasn’t surprised because my VP just doesn’t bring the low end quite as much as I like.

I'll have to look them up. I'm not sure if I've ever heard anything they do. Thanks for the heads up.

edit: listening to their latest playlist on YouTube.

I've heard this song a ton on Sirius Octane just never paid any attention to the band's name.

I'll keep listening. I might want to snag some tickets for that February show! Thanks, Kara!

We’ve talked about them a couple of times here. I’ve been a fan since the bass player was 9 (I think).

That would be pretty great, I love going to small & small-ish venues.
But, I'm going to LA for the 1/20 show at the Troubadour - probably not gonna be able to take more time off work for more traveling than that :(

(but I'm strongly considering trying to get to the show in Berkeley on 1/24 - it's so close....:nailbiting: )

I'm considering getting a Thunderbird, but I'm not 100% sure since I also plays alot of jazz. What genres is the Thunderbird great for?

I’ve played rock, blues, metal, ambient, jazz, R&B, Motown, and more. Not always well, mind you, but the bass handles them all just fine. They’re quite versatile.

Got tickets already?

$4 luminescent powder from eBay.

drilled holes, filled with powder and dropped CA on top.
I’m gonna have to do that. I love my Eppis, but they have tiny side dots. Also Fender shaped objects.
When I did my Ric copy and the MIJ NR copy I had, I cut up knitting needles (aluminum I think)
well I think I just found my new favourite place to hang out!! So many beautiful vintage instruments here...
I don't have any good pictures of my 2018 Thunderbird Vintage Pro - White, but I did use it to record our last album (with a few Hollow body sections):

Happy to join the club!

Nice playing man!

Drilled the neck pocket and put on the tuners of my five string built.

But there's a lot more that needs to happen here. I still need to round off the body edges and rout out the pickup cavity.

I wasn't quite sure what I'd do with the finish but then I got the idea of making it look like the tile floor of my mother's kitchen.

Yeah, I know I'm a big softy.
Well, it'll be the only one of its kind.
