Thunderbird Club

25953053[/URL], member: 57702"]Happy Holidays, fellow T-Bird club members! Here's an update to an old post:

Back in July 2021, on the advice of y'all, I purchased a set of "Epiphone Tbird Embassy Probucker 760 Bass pickups" off Ebay, to replace the Thunderbuckers on my 2013 Gibson Pelham Blue NR. It took my tech until December to get the bass back to me, having done all he could. In addition to switching out the PUs, he replaced the wiring harness/pots.

To refresh, I bought this instrument from a Talkbasser who'd made certain "original owner" mods (Hipshot Ultralite tuners, Babicz bridge, the Thunderbuckers, and control cavity shielding paint). I never bonded with the Thunderbuckers, plus they hummed unless I stood just so -- like single coils.

I DO like the tone of the Probuckers better, but the instrument still hums despite my tech's best efforts. He
That’s very strange. Shielding/grounding can cause issues, but there should be an answer.

I was pleasantly surprised by the non-oxidized hardware on my Greco. The tuners are solid and the claw looks almost new. The bridge finish was really worn and some of the black is missing from the pickups, but that looked like it was player wear. Some Greco's hardware looks like it had been soaked in salt water for a couple years.

Nice! Interesting how they tucked the bird logo into the corner of the pickguard on the Greco. Is it stamped into the plastic?

The Greco bridge has a stippled finish, and I suspect it was just paint vs. powder coating or it wouldn’t have worn so significantly. My other hardware is just plain black. Exact same finish as nocturnals…

My bird logo is not stamped very deep but it is stamped vs. silk screened.

Has anyone shipped a Thunderbird recently (or had one shipped to you)? If so, do you remember the cost? I think Willy got a great deal on his Greco Bird shipping.

The guy I got it from actually seems to sell the items he has listed, and he has the shipping set at $55 for all of his items, even ones that come with cases… mine did not.

but my Greco fits in my Epiphone case…. I am uncertain as to whether it was made in Canada or not.

Somewhere in the 90’s the Gibson cases stopped coming with shrouds, but prior to that some people would cut them off anyway.

Several of my Gibson's have silk shrouds in the case, but the Nikki Sixx Mach II and the 50th Anniversary do not.
Like this?(Unknown source for case)
