Thunderbird Club

Devon is 30 so the Spice Girls for sure. She was into them for a couple of years. Thankfully we missed out on One Direction but had plenty of boy band/crap pop music playing in the house while she grew up.

I have 3 daughters and managed to catch both the Spice Girls wave on no 1, and One Direction on girls 2 & 3. Not to mention Taylor Swift for all of them and Adele for the youngest one. The 2 youngest have gone K Pop mad now.
Edit. And Hamilton. Plus the youngest loves every musical there is (seemingly).
There are worse things.

Below is a link to several news stories, but at 20:45 they do a segment on Guitar Emporium in here in Louisville. Some will find it interesting as Jimmy talks about who he's dealt with over the years. They have been the vintage shop in the region since they opened. I bought my '64 Thunderbird there and my '55 Bass there in the very early 80s. I kept going in a talking with Jimmy about getting an old Thunderbird and one day when I walked in he told me he had a line on one. It took a while, but I ended up with it. It was either $600 or $650, minus anything I traded. $600 may have been what we agreed on. Been a long time.

It was one of those hangouts when people would hangout in guitar shops. That was a place you might run into someone famous if lucky. I was in there a few years ago and and a guy came in and started playing an acoustic bass (not DB); and I never saw anyone tear up a bass like that. After a minute or two I just stopped looking around, sat on an cab and enjoyed the free concert. We talked a while and I found out he was the bassist for the Army Jazz Band. I looked him up and he had played on a number of albums with various artists. Don't recall his name now, but really nice dude and chops from out of this world. Other stories from decades ago I can't get into....

I’ll give you $650 For that 64 T’bird Donnie. It’s getting old now dontchaknow?:roflmao:

I had to hear/watch Chicago a few hundred times with my daughter. That musical really caught her attention.
Seen it. Lol. And Moulin Rouge.
She has been to Wicked a couple of times but not me, her sister went to that with her. She loved La La Land, went to that by herself, but I watched it with her when it came out on streaming or DVD, I also watched with her the Disney thing with the frogs in New Orleans with a jazz club.

I swapped the stock bridge for an Epi 3 point I had in the parts box. It was a direct replacement. The original Greco saddles were not in great shape but so far the bridge is the only modification I have made. My tech did glue in the 3 point bridge inserts because they were loose. Its a great bass and I am glad that I bought it.

Good to know thanks, I was going to take the flamingo apart to check.

Now the search begins for a 3 point!

I’m super glad I got her. I wish the price was from 5-6 years ago but it’s a good deal for today!

I’m super amazed how thin and flimsy the tunas are but they are in perfect shape.

I like you guys way too much to sell you an old, super used bass like that with so many miles on it, and....with a headstock that flew off at some point. I wouldn't want anyone to get had like me and stuck with a damaged instrument. I just couldn't do it with a clear conscience. And Geoff, the shipping to you would just be more than the old thing is worth.

Oh my God! I forgot about Moulin Rouge!! That was another one she was nuts about!

Well, I got my Christmas present to myself today.

She's a Tokai ALC series, but I have no idea which one and the Tokai registry site doesn't help either. What I did find out though is that it must be around 20 years old and that it must have been build in Korea, since it has all the hallmarks of Epiphones from a similar age.
- Alder body
- Maple neck with rosewood fingerboard
- Small pots rather than full size ones.

But she's beautiful and I'm going to play her a lot

Playing her already birthed some new riffs

You might have noticed that I keep saying "She" and "Her" to describe her. And yes, I also gave her a name.

Interesting note on the tunas. Mine seem fine on both the 1977 and the 1990. Maybe post a close up pic and see if there’s a chance they aren’t stock. I will say, most of the vintage Greco hardware I see does seem to be fairly plagued with oxidation issues. I was lucky on my 1990, the hardware is nearly pristine.

I share a birthday with @Miles_ONeal
I’m sure he’s a “Greater” bassist than I am.

We should have a Worst Bass Off!

LOL - for all the other Xmas babies out there, I suspect you heard this at some point in your life, “I wasn’t sure what to get you for your birthday and for Christmas, so here’s a combined present”:D

it’s happened occasionally, but my parents made sure I got a full birthday and Christmas. So does my wife. <3

That sounds to me like his '52 P bass with roundwounds and a mic'ed 361. "Immigrant Song" is another one on that album.
But I recall too that he mentioned playing something with it on the third album. Maybe it's on one of the acoustic tracks
I’ve always loved everything about Immigrant Song (including the bass playing and tone) except the length. Too short.

Then just chuck it in a box and send it my way. I can use it as an art project.
