Thunderbird Club

Do we have a Thunderbird/Orange crossover thread? The Hellacopters are releasing new material for the first time in 13 years, and it's all Orange across the board and the bassist is using a pretty sharp-looking Tbird, from what I can see in the video.

That Chevy van needs a tune-up. Smoking badly.:smug:

So the Thunderbird has disappeared from Sweetwaters website and Guitar center.

I suspect a long overdue refresh is coming in Jan? Chrome pickup covers and an Alnico magnet pickup like the firebird got?

Any one have any ideas?

Mostly just rumors - The Non Reverse hardware placed on the Reverse and possibly a Thunderbird II. Hopefully something will show up at NAMM.

That Sparkling Burgundy bird looks great. A lot for a demo / refurbished instrument tho?

There was a bit of discussion around the refurb people in the Jack Casady thread.

I assume (I know) that this went though that process?

birthday party at the yacht club tonight….playing in this place is a GAS…

I want both friends but my wallet demands 60s aesthetic and a proper head stock break angle and chamfer. And a sunburst.

If we're gonna dream, let's dream big, I say! :)

I for one am glad to see the Hellacopters release new material.

And Little Steven on guitar!

Dregan has played with the Backyard Babies and Michael Monroe (Ex-Hanoi Rocks singer) in the past. He reminds me of an ugly Marilyn Manson, and I am not saying MM is attractive.

I personally have no insights. I know what I would like to see.

An Epi setup surprise -
I found a 2nd hand T-Bird for sale locally and for once, at a very good price. Using 2 hands, I quickly checked for neck relief and it looked ok.
At home it played just fine too but like many have discovered when they acquire a 'Bird, the action was high. The screws on the 3 point bridge were fully bottomed. I reviewed all my notes and checked many YouTube setup videos for T-Birds. I've set up many Fenders and Gibsons too. I was pretty much resigned to needing a shim to bring the action into spec. Worst case, I figured I may need to buy one of those improved bridges that drop in as a replacement for a 3 point bridge.
The moral of this post: don't trust a visual assessment.
I did the right thing and set out to check all the settings using feeler gauges, etc. I checked the relief and found it was way too high. I adjusted the truss rod - it needed a fair bit of tightening... and Voila! action returned to normal. I even had to raise the bridge a tiny amount.
So, one key adjustment and things came into spec. I learned a valuable lesson - measure. Visual guesses don't cut it.

So I'm trying to figure this one out...

The shop has this labelled as a Greco, but best I can tell this is a proper '70s bird. Doesn't look like the wider Greco neck, has the 3 screw pickups, label on back of headstock, large tuners. Stil think it's a refin, but weird of the shop to label it a Greco and not a Gibson...
