Thunderbird Club

Happy new year thunderbuddies!

I still can't play my bird... but I brought thunderbird pickups this time at least.

This genre is called ''rumba flamenca'' and this is 100% my own arrangement for this song from the scratch, you may like it (or not).

(The video recording is quite bad I must say)

Still putting us talentless hacks to shame.

Where is the `bird?

Here we are ( I don't like this pic, but it's mostly because I'm a vain old bag), this is mine on me with the strap pins in the stock locations, centerline if the body for the rear and at the tip of the upper 'bout. Une of our members has added a pin at the neck heel which takes the neck angle up.

See, now that's a smart move. For a Thunderbird, the NR at least has a (stunted) upper horn and if it were up to me I'd want the button right where it is on your bass. (as close as possible to the 12th fret) Most all basses will balance correctly if the upper strap-button is located at the 12th fret. (there are exceptions to the rule as with anything in life) I build custom basses - I've tested these things and am a stickler for player-ergonomics. If you sling your T-bird low - you will not have issues. But if you want to play your Thunderbird in a similar position as most other basses - you need to do certain things to minimize neck-dive and other issues. (reach to 1st position being another) I am in the second category because I love T-birds, know they are not well designed for ergonomic/balance and am willing to create go-arounds to make them playable. If you want that iconic T-bird "look" (and why wouldn't you?) - you have to accept it for what it is - which is that it is not all about ergonomics/balance - it is about how it looks, and how it sounds. And for anyone defending playing one in a standard playing position - I'm not saying it cannot be played, but your left hand (or right hand if you are a lefty) will be doing double-duty holding that neck up over a 45min set or 3hr rehearsal. If you don't believe me, be aware of it next time you rehearse. (as gigs are mostly on hold for now)

I only posted it because he isn't entirely incorrect in all his opinions. Also, choosing the G&L L2000 as his top choice is something I agree with, and I've heard nothing but positive things about Serrick basses. It looks and sound great. I also agree with him about acoustic-electric basses. :rollno: (not hollow-body basses) So his batting average considering his choices give him cred in my book. I understand why those who worship the Bird would take offense, but realistically - I can't dis him. FTR - I'm a T-bird player/supporter longer than most on this thread so I'm not dissing on the beast - just making sure the adoration is justified when new consumer products are released.
I don't fault him for an opinion. But if I am looking for a review, I don't want just a load of opinion; opinion that I may or may not share. I watch few "review" type videos. If I am interested in buying a bass, I would rather pick it up in the store to give it a try.

On the other hand, I do like to watch videos on effects and I always complain that not knowing the rest of the signal chain makes it meaningless. But they can be amusing to watch. I'll always watch a video in the Korg Miku.

WoW, you are so very fluid, amazingling talented. Thank you, Luis.

Unless it is Larry Graham

As a bass-player, it's a technique that one excels at or isn't interested in. I am impressed with any player who 'slaps' well within a given context. Certain styles of music demand it. I personally don't slap although I have no doubt I could if I wanted to - it just isn't a playing style I'm drawn to or need to spend time perfecting.

After 10-15 minutes on the urban dictionary, I couldn't find "nap with the kitty" so I am left to conclude that you meant actually having a nap with your cat...

Had to work for a few extra day without break, it's sounds funny but a nap with my kitty is some of the very best time, she's such a sweet cat, it's very calming to hear her purring as I drift off. I can't value that kind time enough.

I always go into any "review" vid just to hear about what is translated, whether I agree with it or not. Of course they all are opinions (needless to say) - just like here on tb. But if enough 'opinions' align, one can at least feel there is a certain consensus. (which as always one can agree or dis-agree with) Most of these vids cover basses/pedals/amps etc that I will never buy or use. Like you, I like viewing them because they are amusing to watch and also to 'keep-up' with current gear. But.., like I already said - his assessment of an L2000 is spot-on, because I own/play one and I totally agree. If he were to say a G&L L2000 was on his :poop: list... I would have stopped listening/watching. So as usual it all subjective, but in respect of the L2000 - that is a stone-cold consensus.

Word. I've learned the love of a little critter after taking charge of our little Mona.

This pretty much covers it......

Almost Live!: Worst Girlfriend In The World - Therapy - YouTube

This was the funniest show if you were a local.

Been there - done that ... never again. (but the vid was awesome - especially TWGFITW meeting Godzilla!) :roflmao:

But.., in reality - just watched a bunch of Phil Hartmann appearances on David Letterman. He was a favorite SNL performer/comedian/writer for 8 years. (longest of any) Was shot by his wife while sleeping (!) so in the category of WCS WGFITW.

heard the slap trend dominate in flamenco while in Spain this last time around…..don’t think i care for it in that genre (bulerías, sevillanas, rumbas etc) as it overpowers…the arabic origin of the style lends itself to legato semi tones imho….no need to fix what’s not broken…..

Fretless Gibson EB hollow-body! (great player!) :bassist: Do you know when it was made? Definitely hear some Jaco influence.

Jaco period…different background, notice he plays with a pick (always)…

Wow! As a (mostly but not always) pick-player - I'm super impressed! :bassist: I'm going over 4 new songs my band will be recording in February, and determining which are played on what bass and with finger-style or a pick. In search of the perfect combination!

As a Spanish citizen I would :vomit: at slap flamenco. Personally, if it isn’t in the style of Andrés Segovia, I’m probably not listening.
