Thunderbird Club

Rex Brown would be a good example, he played for Pantera. With his signature Spector Rex Brown.
He's got a Warwick Reverso (I played the Adam Clayton Buzzard sig model at the Warwick Showroom in Nashvegas. Weird but cool...I want 'em to do an Explorer) but the one I see him with most is his Streamer. It's been a few years but he gets grief for switching from Spector still.

Not a big fan of slap, but that guy is super tight and has a great tone, regardless how he plays.... :)

Great sounding bass btw - Are those active?

Not big on slap myself but that video displayed a good indication of the sound so went with it. There is waaaaaayyyyyyyy too much slapping going on in many of the YouTube videos and shows how bad most of the players are at it. I prefer videos where they demonstrate several playing styles so you can really get an idea of how the bass sounds in many useful situations.

These are active basses with many having some version of EMG pickups with various preamps. The original Spector HAZ preamp is very popular as well as the Darkglass Tone Capsule, but whichever combo of pickups and preamps are used the bass always seems to sound like a Spector. I just bought one of the last Haz clones made by a Talkbass member (formerly Duff2) so I can install it in my 4X. Will also use dual soapbar shaped EMG P pickups in the bass to fully upgrade it. Should ultimately sound similar to what Mark gets with his EMG loaded Jackson Bird.

I have an EMG 35P4 somewhere in a parts drawer if you need it.

Is it one of the quick connect type? That makes it a lot easier to install with the preamp.

Quick connect at the pickup, bare wires on the other end of the cable. It's fairly old, I got it from George (old man C at LBO).

Let me get this right?:

You're drilling and inserting new side dot markers, then paint them over when you are doing the red faux neck binding, and after that you're giving the dot markers white paint to make them stand out????

Why bother drilling and inserting the dot markers in the first place, when you are going to paint them over twice?

Bad explanation on my part cause it's not exactly what i'm doing. I'm painting first time around in red the whole back of the neck (including the fretboard). then once it's done, i'll drill the marker holes, then seal it all in semi gloss varnish.

Mine!

The plan is to turn it into a NOS clone of my '77, 3 point included.

Thanks, EZ sniper!

Did you out-snipe Scott??
Have no idea but pretty sure I did Baz. I was prepared to go much higher than my winning bid, three times as much if necessary.

All's fair in love, war, and Thunderbirds!

I got distracted, 500 was my limit, just as well, on to other things

You saved me some $$, Scott. Thanks! I wouldn't have been able to bid if my power hadn't been restored after Matthew today.

I have a sweet spot for '77s I've owned two, this is the third.

Take pictures!
Here's a pic from the concours in Santa Barbara...

...beautiful weather, wish I could have talked a few folks into a jam session, would have made the day perfect. Nearly 100 immaculate Porsche cars in the competition and very very tough judges, no trophy for me this year.

I now return you to your regularly scheduled program...

Update on my bird: I had to relocate the hole for pickup wire feed to the controls because the original was in the way of 1-the pickup height screw & 2-the pickup wires were resting right above said hole for the height screw. So i drilled it towards the middle treble side of the bridge pup cavity & plugged the old one. it's much nicer & the wires don't have much strain on them either. I've pondered this morning of either installing a volume & tone control on the bass (along with the killswitch still) or having two Volumes so i could favour either or. But i'll decide that once the whole bass is done & hear how it sounds through my rig.

I shall get back to building my other bird soon enough, i just gotta finish up a few other things before & if i'm efficient, i should have it done by Xmas along with this goth bird. So two birds one stone :P
