This pic sure makes a mint headstock look very used...

Beautiful!
Very tasteful and expertly made rendition of the Alembic triple omega. There are some amazing looking instruments out there made by Bruce, unfortunately I haven’t had the chance to play any of them. As a big Alembic fan I’d love to give one of these a spin to see how they compare.

I have played an Alembic or two before, and it's damn near identical, just with a coat of paint. Even under the paint, where it's sunk in, you can see the typical Alembic construction, multi-laminate neck and hippie sandwich body. While still active, it doesn't feature the series I or II circuit, rather Vol/Tone for each pickup, a master volume, and then a 4 position pickup selector, with position 4 being off. I actually like the simplicity compared to the EQs on the Alembic (not that I dislike those, but I appreciate the streamlined standard controls), and it's also stereo output. Pickups are, as far as I can tell, near identical to Alembics (certainly the same casing) and the hardware the same, with Schaller tuners. There's very little info about them, and the timeline of Bruce Becvar working for Alembic and then building his own seems murky at best, with some believing he made at least his early ones while at Alembic, after hours, which could certainly explain the shared hardware and pickups. Hard to say.

hard to tell if active....doesn't seem it but why that recessed XLR type connector? low Z out?.....hmm...

That would be my guess, but not much info on it.

Sweet deal!
But then again, it’s not full scale so you shouldn’t have to pay full price.;)
This guy, with the jokes!

 So how many were made and did they come in various finishes?

Actual hard numbers are...well, maybe Bruce himself knows, but I don't think there's anything concrete out there. As far as finishes, I've never seen evidence of any other Alembic or Becvar being finished in anything but natural. Probably the only factory stock white one out there.

I dig the white. :bassist:

My guess is the album is the Hagstrom, as I don't believe he purchased the BecVar until '77 or '78 (sadly, ledzeppelin.org is no longer around, which was a stellar repository on Zep's gear).

'78 is too late as he used it on the '77 tour alongside the 4-string Alembic. I recall reading that the 8-string was bought earlier than the 4-string but I haven't found any proof that it was before the sessions. '
