Thunderbird Club

Every band I play with is older guys (and girls) with day jobs. It is all for fun, and it is. Not all of us have children. Most do.

I contend that it's more than "just for fun" (which it is.., fun that is). But on top of that it's filling/fulfilling an inner need as creative people/musicians to express ourselves creatively. I'm saying that as we aren't professional musicians, we are still musicians and want to play music.., by ourselves or with others! Considering that essential internal motivation - no further justification is needed. The goal is creating a vehicle for creative expression. We here are bass-players, we understand the role bass plays in a band and in music and we want to explore that on any level possible. Being a musician is a life thing, just like being an artist. Once you are - you are till the end.

Possibly the first (pop) song to incorporate an extended "singalong" coda. It's fun watching the interplay between Paul & John. Many people downplay this period of attempted "togetherness" - but if this sort of thing was ever needed... it is now. It was less about "idealism" then, and more about attempting to change course. That concept is key.

Say no more. Tom Petersson had a similar Greco in the late seventies (he plays it in Cheap Trick's Reading 1979 video alongside a T-Bird, Fender Bass V and Hamer 12-string).

Good eye!

Mike & Mikes always has such cool stuff - that's like an Alembic Greco... so cool, right down to the leather gig-bag. Interesting that it's a short-scale bass. Would love to play it!

I'd like to pick one up to take to gigs so I'm not dragging the BecVar/Alembic out, but it's almost the same price as I bought that for so doesn't make much sense. I think mine is 32" scale, if I recall correctly.

You have that!?? :wideyed:
Pics. Please.

No problem! I did a post about it over on the Last Bass Outpost

That is my dream bass...one of my dream basses actually. Not that I need a third 12-string 'though.
My Hamer is not that nice looking at the moment:

It has had it's share of different pickups and mods. I already have another T-bird pickup ordered for the bridge slot and the current one is in it's correct position (surprisingly 60's T-Bird...).
And to be honest, only the neck is a genuine Hamer (from a Korean made CH-12) so I haven't hacked a "real" Hamer.

The T-Bird pickup is perfect for an octave string bass. Luckily that search is over.
Dream bass. Until it is time to tune it, then it is a nightmare...

;)

Good point. It is what we do. Like breathing. Stop and bad things happen.

They are withing walking distance of my house. Maybe a mile or so. I have never set foot in their shop. One day I will because the luthier who has always done the best work on my instruments works there now. Credit cards and the like will stay home. They always have something interesting and quirky.

Well said Geo! One of the great aspects of music as your vehicle for creative expression is that you don’t need to be at a Professional skill level to create good music and enjoy it.

I need to play.
But I do know naturally talented people that don’t play.
I know a guy that's an amazing piano player. Can play pretty much whatever you put in front of of him--then add nice parts that make it even better. Never practiced at home. He quit playing a couple of years ago. Said he'd been dong it for 40 years and was retiring from playing. I enjoy playing at my low skill level, I can only imagine it being more interesting and less frustrating to have that kind of skill. I hope and pray I never hang it up like that.

Just don't forget why you started, and why you continued. Those reasons may change, but that's how you keep it alive- and you do it because it's good for you.
So. There. All set. ;)

Thus the line in my sig:"playing 'til I can't"
