Thunderfunk Amp club!

Been loving my 550b and Gloc Quattro for a while now...if I needa bit of grit I have added an aggie Tonehammer and an agro for really grungy songs........just a note..back in the fall I had some unexpected distortion from the 550.... Living near Dave, He invited me to come by his house/workshop..I did in a blinding snowstorm..he lives a bit off the beaten track ..so it was an adventure.

He not only fixed the 550 B while I watched but upgraded it and added wattage to get it near 600...love it

GREAT customer service and a wonderful gentleman...

Adios.

I do have a quick question for guys. I'm currently using my TFB550-B with an Epifani UL1-310, which sounds great. :D I've been looking for a smaller cab that would be easier to haul around when practicing with friends. From all the threads I've read, it sounds like like the Aguilar DB112 is the closest to what I'm looking for sound-wise. Unfortunately, it weighs almost as much as the UL1-310. :hmm: Granted, it has a bit smaller dimensions (38% smaller). Do you have any TFB550-B friendly, easy-to-haul cab recommendations? From what I've read, the DB112 might just worth the extra weight...

I have 2 DB112. Great cabinets for the thunderfunk 550B which I also have. If you are using it for practise I can't see hauling 43 to 45 pounds a problem. But then again many find the heavier amps a problem. If its lighter than the 310 and smaller then there really should not be a problem. Its loud for a single 12 and has a big bottom to it along with a good middle and upper mid range. I think you will be very happy with it. Good Luck with your search.

couple things,

the db112 sounds nothing like the ul310. also, i highly doubt the db112 will give you the low end satsifaction in a loud group that'll equal the output of the ul310.

what kind of sounds are you looking for? how loud are the groups you play? is weight the most important aspect of your search?

Berg HT-112

38 lbs. of pure tone (very small and easy to carry around)

..or Berg HT-112 ER

43 lbs. with a bit more low end and slightly milder mids (still juicy mids though)

Both just kill with the Thunderfunk! ;)

I like mids and low-mids. I prefer a bit of a vintage tone. I don't slap at the moment (but I may try to learn someday). I don't need things very loud. Bass is hobby for mew rather than profession, so I don't have regular gigs or anything. I just want to be sure that I can be heard over rock drummer... I normal play in homes and other smallish locations. I figured that two 112's would be more than enough. Tone is much more important than weight. Also, I just ordered my first five string, so want to be sure othat my cab can handle it without a problem. I do like the UL-310. I might go ahead and keep it, even though it isn't the easiest to fit in the trunk or take up and down stairs. I know. I agree that I don't have anything to complain about compared to 8x10 and 4x10 owners...:hiding:

Berg HT112's and EA are also on my list as possible options.

Thanks for asking this question! I've got the same setup as you and have often wondered about a 1x12.

hmm...

aguilar gs112's and epifani performance ps112.

both have that thicker sound you want. the db112 has too much middle mids and a rather congested voice. i personally dont like the cab, but prefer the clearly, tho no less punchier gs112 cab. the ps112 sounds very similar to the gs112, but frankly, it just sounds bigger and louder.

My 750A is on the way. Bought one from Alphaman and I should get it on friday. I have the 550B and will compare it as some still like the 550B over the 750A. I get the feeling I will be selling the 550B. Dave has been very happy with the reults of the 750A. I am gigging that night so it will be nice to play it.

nice,

let us know, cause as much as i love my 550B, sometimes a bit more horsepower would be nice.

Look at a pair of Bag End 15's, maybe get one in a coax. Works great with my TFB420.

I heard the differences more live than in the room I had used to a/b the 550 and 750. The 750A sounds massive. More bottom end extension without it being compressed. Although it did compress but with more lower end. The upper frequencies seemed to extend as well. But it wasn't to the point where it wasn't the character of the Thunderfunk. It sounds like what we are familiar with (us long time 550 users)
but bigger. Now its only one gig and I will gig again tonight with it. I don't want to sound like a honeymoon adventure where everything sounds like garbage next to it. I am happy with it. I want to gig more with it. But it was massive sounding where Im use to the settings of the 550. It got loud. But it was clean and clear like all the thunderfunks. But this is a powerful amp the 750 is.

I traded my Aguilar GS410 (big heavy 98lb beast) for a Schroeder 1212L (4ohm) and love it! I can finally pull some good wattage out of the TF. I got to gig it over the weekend and it seems to be a killer combination. It cuts through the mix really really well. Don't care too much for the sound by itself (which reminds me of my last Sadowsky) but it just kills in a group setting. Not to mention it is only around 40lbs.
