TI flats are the best sounding flats.............period!
They are floppy! If we have a strong attack, the action has to go up.
They are expensive!
They are also great for necks that have maxed out truss rods, because of the very low tension.

Where did Charlie say he was an expert fretless player? He only said he's been playing (mostly) exclusively fretless all that time, not how good he is at doing so.
Over the years here on TB I've copped to being a hobby player with very modest skills many times, FWIW. Don't be like me...
After sitting on the fence for about a year I finally pulled the trigger on a set of TI Flats for my recently acquired Squier Vista MusicMaster Bass.
The truss rod on the bass isn't maxed out but it's close and that was a concern initially but after downloading the PDF specs sheet from TI, the total tension on the short scale set I ordered is less than a pound difference of the set of the D'Addario rounds that are on the bass now. The TI set is the least tension of the two. So I should be good to go.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts on the TI Flats here in this thread. I should have mine delivered Tuesday at the latest and will share my thoughts on them

I'm wondering what YOU'RE smoking and what planet it's grown on. This makes me think you've never actually heard Jaco Pastorius play. There isn't a single recorded example of what you're saying.

No, TI flats are good because they are good. The price has nothing to do with it. Fine wine, sorry to say, has been proven along with fine liquor, to only be more enjoyable by placebo effect. $2 charles shaw wine from trader joes consistenly beats vintage wines in blind tests. Same with stradivarius violins, high end audio gear, and almost any luxury goods.
And this is coming from someone who spent $5k on a tube eq, only to learn the plug in is indistinguishable in blind tests.
DSD and higher sample rates were proven to be indistinguishable, as well as high end drums, etc etc. Build quality is better, but not sound.

So, for those gun-shy about the price, consider this. Buy 'em and use them til you get your money's worth. Then you can sell them for half of the retail price. Try that with your Chromes.
I put TI's on my P when they were $45 a set, which was 15+ years ago. Still on the same Bass and they get better every time I play them.
Got my TI Jazz Flats Monday, a day ahead of schedule.
So far so good. Love the feel doing slides. Don't miss the clank.
I like the softer feel on both hands. Noticably sort of floppy on the E, but not an issue for me that some tend to make of it. They are on my 30" scale MusicMaster.
Fwiw, the G on the short scale set was just long enough to fit my string through MusicMaster. Could have been 1 1/2" to 2 " longer but it will work. Put a small V on the tip of the string to grab the hole of the vintage style tuner better.
I'll know more about the tone after I jam with band and hear them in the mix. For now, I dig em.

I love TI flats on my P-Bass. I will never take them off. I didn't like them, however, on my J-Bass.
I got the best tone out of my AV '62 Jazz Bass with TI JFs.
I know this thread was about TI flats but I just put chromes on my Pentabuzz. First flats I've ever tried. Not just on my fretless but in general.. holy crap these are amazing. Exactly the sound I was hoping for. Maybe I can convince my wife I need to try a set of TI's.
Try to get some used ones, they are just as good if not better than new. Mine are almost a decade old and going string.
I just went through a pretty long tour in China, and my Lull P4 was strung up with a fairly new set of Chromes throughout. It was a great tour and I had a fantastic time, but I gotta say...there were so many isolated moments when I thought about my 2 year-old set of TI JFs sitting in a drawer, back in America, and damned if a single tear wasn't hanging there in my soul, yearning for those strings.
First thing I did once I touched American soil, was get home, tear those Chromes off, and after scrubbing 6 weeks of Chinese grime that'd accumulated on my fretboard (not a lot of properly equipped handwashing stations over there), slapped those TIs back on. One of the more tender moments I've felt, in my musical life. Love the tension on these things (can't handle the Chromes high-tension), and the growl they give you on the right neck.
As a side note, I have TI Flex-cores on my upright, and those are the most beautiful sounding bass strings I've ever heard in my LIFE!!
