*TI Flats MegaThread*

So, i recently fitted my Yamaha BB300 (80's reverse P) with Geezers and TI Flats. The tone is pretty good playing solo. I took it to rehearsal the other night and was pretty underwhelmed. Even after increaing gain eq-ing a bunch more bass in, still kinda thin and lacking presence. I love the TIs on my Ray but I'm just not feelin' it on the BB. My Ps with Labellas and my Ray34 with TIs can run with the same amp settings and get pretty even volume and 2 different and great tones.

I wonder if part of it is the reverse P configuration. My 2 regular Ps are pretty much committed to the LaBellas they are wearing and are my E and Eb thump machines.. . so I'd rather not mess with them, but does anyone think my experience would be completely different with a non-reverse P configuration? Maybe I could do the TB thing and use this as an excuse to get another P.

I've been using TI flats for a long time, in fact so long that I'm not sure how old my strings are. So, two basses, both strung with TI flats, have developed buzzy E strings. I'm pretty sure, but not 100%, that the string winding is buzzing. Easy fix, I'll just change strings, but i wonder if anyone else has experienced this.

Any 5 string users? Thinking of putting a set on a Tune Active/Passive bass I have. I have EB Cobalts on them and it is already starting to turn brown in some spots for some reason. Plus the lesser tension of TIs seem nice, I love it on my Fender Jazz.

5 string user here. I have a set of the TI flats on my stock passive Lakland skyline J bass 5.

I'm really pretty blown away at the way they feel and sound. Very balanced across all the strings from the lowest notes all the way up.

I didn't expect them to be anywhere near this good, but these strings really are living up to their hype for me and my situation. Stellar!

So, I did this Let's See Your Hot-Rodded Cheapo Basses!. I'm not sure I noticed a huge difference in the regular P vs reverse. I did work some more on the EQ and feel like I have a workable tone. I run a TCE 450 so I have 3 EQ presents. I have one dedicated to this bass and will continue tweaking it in.

After adding a set of TI flats to a 70s P with a truss-rod issue I must say that TI Flat strings are now my favorite and principal string of choice, I have been a Rotosound rs77ld (Rotosound flats) user for 15 years but recently due to some supply problems are even some defective strings I have moved away from that brand. I can say that Rotos are without thought the flats with more tension on the market and jumping directly to TI is a vast difference, but today I am about to add them to my main axe, my trustable Vintera 50s P by Fender.

Other than Chromes (that I absolutely dislike, nothing against them if you guys like them...) I really love all sounds flats can produce, but those TI have a particular tone and the feel is also unique, now I am playing Rotos and questioning if it even makes sense to have all that tension for the final result you get.

TI is absolutely amazing and soon I will move to only using them on my main basses, what a great string, and what an insanely good feel they have!

TIs are on my J bass, my go to. They are maybe 16 years old now, and have been on so many basses the wraps are all fuzzy. They're just getting to the totally awesome stage now the twang has finally started to disappear, and they're staying on this bass until they break or I die...

Those fuzzy silk wraps prove how tought she across this 16 years. Believe it or not, a great sounding bass tone able extent a bassist age.

That is amazing! I personally get OCD with fuzzy wraps and end up replacing them :roflmao:
I guess that set was worth it ;)

I think I'm coming up to around a year with TIs on my Fender Highway 1 precision. I monkeyed around with the electronics on that bass a lot over the years, but the current configuration, TIs with Duncan Antiquity II pickup, has me not wanting to ever touch it again. I won't be changing the strings on this one again unless one breaks. The loose feel took a few weeks of getting used to, but I developed a more delicate touch that I feel has benefited my playing in general, and on all my other basses too.

That Yamaha BBPH is simply amazing... what a great bass, I bet those flats sound incredible with the yamaha 3 band active EQ.
It really is a great bass.

I found it by chance in Porto's Ludimusic, believe it or not. It was there for months, during the pandemic. They only made a couple of hundred of these basses, or so, but one found it's way to Ludimusic!

I was there picking up a Boss OC-5 I ordered, and I recognized the BBPH (thanks TB!). I asked to play it and bought it right there. It's a powerful bass.

The EQ is very good. And it has Passive/Active with no difference in volume.
